Sudbury – the delightful market town at the centre of many of Suffolk’s finest villages
Our unique collection of holiday cottages are all within a 15-20 minute car journey from Sudbury, set in the beautiful county of Suffolk.
Location & History
Sudbury perches close to the River Stour on the Suffolk/Essex border. The small market town is surrounded by beautiful landscape with its water meadows and rolling hills.
The famous Suffolk-born artists John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough have strong links dating back with this historic wool town, with the latter actually being born and raised in Sudbury.
With Sudbury being the main town for many surrounding local villages, such as Long Melford, Lavenham and Belchamp Walter to name a few, it always has a friendly and bubbly atmosphere with a vibrant Market twice a week, The Quay Theatre, the wonderful Gainsborough Museum and many restaurants and cafes.
The Town was once Moted and overlooks lovely water meadows through which the River Stour runs which was the very first canalised river in England and along whoes banks Constable painted many of his most famous English landscape mastepeices like ‘The Haywain’
Sudbury was also famous for being a centre for silk production and one of the silk Mills still operates and provides silk to famous designer houses such as Versace.
