The Experience - Self Catering At Tudor Cottage
Tudor Cottage is in the centre of a wonderful Mediaeval village famous for having the longest Mediaeval High Street in England and being the setting for the TV ‘Lovejoys’ series.
This famous Suffolk village sits beside the River Stour and is a designated Area of outstanding Natural Beauty, the village has two stately homes and a marvellous Wool Church and is bustling with cafes, antique centres, restaurants, pubs and very many interesting shops.
The cottage fits in perfectly as a beautiful unspoilt and original Tudor Cottage packed with character and original features.
Just sitting in front of the roaring fire in the massive Inglenook fireplace transports you back to a fascinating time in our history.
This is a cottage to make memories in.
Cottage Walk Through
Tudor Cottage
You enter the cosy main room with all the ancient Mediaeval beams displayed and the gorgeous massive inglenook fireplace, which you can light a log fire in.
The comfortable sofa takes in the view of this historic room.
The main room leads on to a pretty cottage kitchen dining room with all the amenities you need to make a good meal.
Beside the Kitchen is a utility room with laundry facilities a sink and a toilet.
The kitchen leads out to an enclosed garden lit with fairy lights, ideal for evening drinks or outside dining.
From the main room there are stairs to the King-sized bedroom and bathroom.
A shared pathway in the garden allows you access through next door to the street if needed.
This isn’t just a lovely Suffolk Holiday cottage but also a beautiful piece of history for you to enjoy.
Local Area
There are a network of footpaths to explore, including an old railway line to Lavenham, now a nature trail you can pick up from across the Village Green.
If travelling by train, a working remnant of the old railway still runs from nearby Sudbury to Marks Tey, connecting to London, Ipswich and Norwich. It is a very picturesque.
There are also a few buses from the village, that can get you to the major villages and towns nearby like Sudbury, Lavenham and Bury St Edmunds.
We encourage visitors to take advantage of Willow Tree Farm Shop, a short drive or cycle ride away, near Glemsford. And there are many more Farm Shops to be found in dotted around the countryside.
There are many artisan food shops in the area. and a google search will come up with the latest regular craft and produce markets and speciality shops.
The famous village of Lavenham ‘England’s best preserved Medieval Village’ is just 5 miles away and was where all the ancient houses in the Harry Potter fils were filmed.
This area was immortalised by England’s renowned Landscape Painter; John Constable and is known as ‘Constable Country’. Long Melford was the furthest that the barges got up stream that Constable painted.
There are many great country pubs, some special Gastro pubs like The Black Lion on the village green or Scutchers next to it, The Crown Inn and the Angel at Stoke by Nayland, the Bell at Kersey (another gorgeous little Medieval hamlet with a ford).
Please see my Discover This Location tab for more information.
This area is amazingly rural and untouched by city life, with tiny single track lanes leading nowhere or to a pub, footpaths galore and tiny Medieval Villages where time seems to have stood still.
If you are staying for more than a weekend then a day out at the unspoilt Suffolk Coast is always a lovely trip.
The coast starts just 30 minutes away near Colchester or Ipswich and our favourite beaches and places on the coast are between 50 – 70 minutes away, places like Pin Mill, Nacton, Levington, Orford, Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Southwold and Mersea Island.
This is an area you can feel a million miles away from city life and really relax and enjoy just being part of.
The Garden
There is a pretty little garden leading out from the kitchen, it has a dining table and chairs and is lit up at night with fairy lights, perfect for outside dining or an evening drink.
Outside
The cottage is right on the wide highstreet with trees on either side and the pavement set a bit back from the road, there is free parking and a wonderful array of independent shops and antique centres, cafes, restaurants and pubs.
There is a famous little brewery and country park beside the river at one end of the village and a big village green with two magnificent stately homes which are open to the public and a beautiful Wool Church.

Great location for exploring Suffolk.
We know Suffolk very well as my partner is from Lavenham (well worth visiting) and it was lovely to be back in the lovely Suffolk countryside.
The cottage had everything we need and was very comfortable, it was a real home from home and is such a sweet cottage.
A bottle of Prosecco was waiting for us on arrival, a very kind gesture thank you Karen!

Lovely cottage and well situated in the centre of Long Melford, just opposite the Cock & Bell pub.
No Tudor issues in the kitchen or bathroom – both are modern!
We really enjoyed ourselves and we would recommend 3 Tudor Cottages as a great place from which to explore Suffolk.
The Gainsborough House in Sudbury, and Lavenham are worth visits, as well as just relaxing in and around Long Melford.
Really comfy and generously provided house with lovely bed and sunny back garden.
Excellent location with walks straight from the door and plenty of options for eating out or in.
I recommend the The River Glem Circular Walk , straight from the door, for those that like a day wandering around the quiet corners of Suffolk countryside.
Our visit was a surprise birthday weekend away for my partner and we both had a lovely time.
The cottage was easy to find and we were able to park directly outside.
A quick turnaround and we off to Long Melford tea rooms for an enormous slice of cake which was quite possibly the best cake we have ever eaten.
The cottage was wonderful and we loved eating breakfast in the sun in the garden.
Everything was walking distance- pubs, delis and cafes.
We even walked to Lavenham and back along the disused railway line.
So much to see and do and with a cosy, comfortable, characterful cottage as our base.
