Discover: Pin Mill

Apart from lounging out on the boat and watching the river traffic and Nature go by, you can also walk up or down the foreshore for miles, where there are some great opportunities to see lots of wildlike from seals to pretty wading birds, the walks go through woods, heathland and meadows and of course you have the wonderful Butt and Oyster just 50 yards from the pub when you return.

There is a lovely big lake and nature Reserve called Alton Water just 12 minutes away from Pin Mill which offers visitors lots of water activities like sailing, kayaking and rowing see this link .

Tthere is also a bike hire shop at Alton Water and an 8 mile bike track going round the lake and Nature reserve, check out details at this website.

Anglian Water also manage the lovely Nature reserve and if you want to go fishing they will provide you with Fishing Lisenses, please see their website

There is a Horse Riding Stables at the top of the lane where you you can ride along the penisular with great views over the river have a look at their website.

The official bike route goes past Pin Mill and round the Shotley Peninsular.

There are Ferries at the end of the Peninsular which will take you to Fexistow at the Languard Fort which contains a really good museum or over to Harwich.

The Suffolk Food Hall is just 5 minutes down the road with a wonderful selection of local produce from local producers offering everything from edible seeweed and fish to cheeses and artisan breads, there is a large shop and and restaurant and you can buy interesting flowers, plant, bulbs and herbs there as well.

Jimmys Farm of TV fame is just 15 minutes away and full of fun a treats for kids and families, it also has an excellent reaturant and cafe. Jimmys also has regular fun events, so worth checking out if something is happening when you are around.

Ipswich Marina is 15 minutes away with a lots of pubs and restaurants and pretty boats to enjoy

Levington Marina is 20 minutes away

The Ship Inn at Levington offers really good food and there is a lovely walk down the meadows and Deer Park to the river opposite Pin Mill.

The Butt and Oyster Pub opposite The Endeavour is a really wonderful pub, full of atmosphere and serving good food with some excellent sea food.
