Mountains, forests, lakes – Tara, a magical house in the Czech Republic

We have just got back from a family holiday in Tara, our house in the Czech Republic, where we managed to squeeze in two seasons in the space of nine days.

Rambling through the forest in T-shirts one day and waking up in a winter wonderland, with eight inches of snow the next! The kids loved it – running wild in the 20 acres of meadows surrounding the house and a trip to the nearby Tarzan Adventure Park.

For me, the highlight is always hiking in the mountains.

Tara sleeps 12 people and is a great spot for a big-family holiday.

Tara, in the Czech Republic

Tara is a magical and historic log house set in a beautiful mountain nature reserve.

As lovely in the summer as in the winter, Lonely Planet’s magazine ‘Traveller’ picked staying in Tara as one of ‘Europe’s 30 Ultimate Winter Experiences‘

We have put in some new sofas and beds so Tara now sleeps 12 people (plus two more if needed, on a sofa bed in the room with the four poster bed) with spacious rooms and lots of nooks for socialising. A great place to hang out with friends and family.

There’s even an old-fashioned bread oven with stairs up to the top, if you want to hunker down in a cosy spot to read a book or have a snooze.

The bedrooms are spacious and the beds have big, fluffy duvets and are furnished for comfort, with lots of thoughtful touches.

The balcony is the perfect place to settle down at the end of the day, with a nice cold drink to admire the view.

Tara is in the middle of the famous Beskydy Mountain Nature Reserve and close to Sance Lake.

The landscape is beautiful and the area has a rich history with many wonderful places to visit nearby.

Brno Airport is about two hours away and Ostrava Airport about 40 minutes.

Ryanair has direct flights to both airports.

What do our visitors to Tara say? “Just back from Tara I want to stress that this is probably the most charming cottage I’ve ever spent a night in! The support by Kverta and the locals with the snow was great – when the horse arrived and drew our things uphill we felt like pushed back into a Slavonic fairy tale.

Congratulations: Tara is truly a pearl. We are busily making plans when to return”. Have a look our photo album for Tara and start planning an amazing family holiday in a very beautiful and magical place.
