When visiting one of our holiday cottages, whether it be a remote countryside cottage, or a grade listed cottage set in a historic village, one thing that our guests often ask us is ‘Where is the nearest pub?’. Well, luckily for you, at The Grove Cottages we realise how much it means for some couples to have a pub nearby. Below are our holiday cottages near a pub, where the nearest pub is no more than a 20 minute walk away.
Holiday Cottages near a Pub in Lavenham: If staying at Snow Cottage, Rose Cottages, The Bakery, Orchard Cottage, Dons Barn, Farm Cottage, Spadgers or Water Cottage then Lavenham is just a few minutes drive away there is a delightful pub called ‘The Angel‘ in Market Place, where guests can swing by on route back from a long walk to get a drink and some lunch or try out The Cock Horse opposite the wonderful Wool Church and the start of the Railway walk.
Lavenham has a really excellent walk which is ideal for you dog because it runs along the disused railway line and the line is fenced off from the countryside. The line goes all the way to Long Melford and even onwards beside the River Stour to Sudbury so even the most energetic dog walker is going to be challenged.
Holiday Cottages near a Pub in Stoke-by-Nayland: Meandering through tiny little lanes you will find yourself a number of excellent gastro pubs – seen by many as some of the best in the area. The Angel is a traditional Grade II 16th Century inn, boasting Michellin status and excellent food, Opposite is The Crown Inn which is also a very good gastro pub the puddings in both I may add are unbelievably tasty.
Overall a really relaxing atmosphere with a great selection of beers, ales and wines from around the globe. The Crown in Stoke-by-Nayland was taken over by the original owners of The Angel opposite. Funnily enough they have now swopped again ! They both offer really good food and service in beautiful surroundings.
From braised ox cheek, creamed corn with wild mushrooms & wilted spinach, to roasted partridge with curly kale and bubble & squeak croquettes; The Crown offers exquisite dishes and it has quickly grown to attain a high prestige across Suffolk & Essex. It has won best pub in England for a pub with a wine cellar, and not only has superb wines but also Crouch Brewery Ales, whose Brewers Gold won Supreme Champion 2 years running!
Holiday Cottages near a Pub in Hadleigh: When staying at The Old Monkey or Meddlars in Hadleigh, you have a choice of a few superb pubs in or close to this historic Suffolk town; there are many Pubs & Restaurants in this area that we often hear great things about from our guests. The excellent Marquis has recently undertaken a huge make over and has been meticulously transformed into a stunning boutique restaurant where you can enjoy delicious food. For a more traditional village pub visit The George – half way down the high street in Hadleigh. A very friendly and welcoming pub, with a selection of quality meals from local produce and a fine selection of ales. Dogs and children are both welcome and The Kings Head in the high street also does good food.
Holiday Cottages near a Pub in Long Melford: When visiting Romney or Spadgers, you really are in for a treat. The picturesque village of Long Melford is very well known for its large selection of traditional pubs and restaurants within the village. The Black Lion on the Village Green has a great menu and even one for doggies !
With very good customer service and generous portions of food served The Swan in Long Melford is also very good, and is nestled into the heart of the village. Run by a family whom source local produce, they are very passionate about their food. Also, a fantastic wine list – which is always a bonus!
Holiday Cottages near a Pub in Dedham: Dedham is a lovely English village where John Constable found much of his inspiration from the beauty of the Dedham Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natrual Beauty (AONB). If visiting Dedham make sure that you visit The Sun Inn – a pub serving quality food and great wines and beers – they even can rustle you up a picnic to take out with you for when you decide to explore the beautiful area or hire a rowing boat from The Boatyard which is also an excellent wine bar restaurant on the river there, to row down to Constables birthplace at Flatford Mill and take in all the views of the picturesque scenery of the Dedham Vale.
Holiday Cottages near a Pub in Kersey: The Bell in Kersey is a picture book pub in Suffolk’s prettiest medieval hamlet, it is right by the ford and has good selection of beers and good pub food , you have to book for Sunday Lunches.
Nearby Pubs to The Grove (Edwardstone): The White Horse in Edwardstone has its own macro brewery and is owned by local cider maker so not much chance of drinking that one dry, it is charmingly renovated in a no nonsense authentic way with lovely pub old pub furniture, bar billiards, big log burners and very happy to accommodate kids and doggies.
The White Horse does home made Pizzas’s and excellent charcuterie and cheese Boards, also good drive by catering vans come on weekends with offers like upmarket Wagu Burgers – The pub is famous for its heavily attended Beer festival and its a great pub to walk or cycle to even with kids as there is a big play meadow and Nature Reserve opposite.
The Fleece in Boxford is owned by the local cider maker who also owns the Micro-brewery at The White Horse. This is a traditional village pub with a laid back comfy atmosphere, it also has a pretty William Morris styled tea room.
