We are delighted with this fabulous new holiday cottage on our books: The Lovejoy Studio. This bright and airy cottage sleeps four people and dogs are welcome. It’s full of artwork created by the owner, and it was the place where the the popular BBC TV series Lovejoy was filmed, hence the name of the cottage. It sits in the private grounds of Belchamp Hall, a wonderful stately home in the heart of the north Essex countryside. The Lovejoy Connecton: Belchamp Hall featured regulary in the Lovejoy TV series and it was known as ‘Felsham Hall’, the home of Lady Jane, Lovejoy’s love interest. The TV series was known as much for the lovely countryside it was filmed in, as much as the stories and it’s these landscapes that people still want to come and visit from all over the world. Belchamp Hall and The Lovejoy Studio is right in the middle of the countryside on the Suffolk/Essex border where filming took place and you can cycle through the pretty lanes and eat lunch in the pubs that featured in the series. The ground floor of the stable block became Lovejoy’s workshop in the last two series and there are now two accommodation units: one above the workshop (Lovejoy’s), which sleeps two people and one next door (The Lovejoy Studio), which sleeps four. The Lovejoy Studio is a bright and airy space, much like an artist’s studio, which is why it has been named as such. Artist Alice Scrutton lives in Belchamp Hall and she is known for her evocative and sweeping seascapes and her work is featured throughout this lovely holiday home. There are plenty of footpaths round and about the Belchamp Hall estate and beyond, with woodlands, Belchamp Brook and a lovely mill pond nearby. There’s also a 14th century brick and flint church, with some fascinating medieval wall paintings, just across the road and there’s a private tennis court available for guests’ use. Bicycles and a BBQ are also provided. The country lanes are very quiet and ideal for a cycling trip and The Lovejoy Studio is just a few miles from Sudbury, Long Melford, Lavenham, Finchingfield and Castle Hedingham. There are plenty of farm shops and good quality pubs and restaurants nearby too – everything you need for an idyllic stay in a beautiful setting.
