Discover: Tryst Full Description

Grade 1 listed and of exceptional historical interest, The Tryst offers luxury and comfort, without compromise, in the heart of Lavenham.

Downstairs

The Tryst probably dates back to the early 15th Century and is oozing charm and warmth. It is crammed with historical features and furnished to an exceptional standard with sumptuous textiles, beautiful furniture and stunning original artwork. Wood panelling, a massive bressummered inglenook fireplace with an AGA wood burner, oak beams and a complete lack of plum lines will greet you in the magnificent reception rooms. The kitchen is genuine country: tasteful shaker style, yet well appointed and gently warmed by the beautiful AGA. It’s the epitome of a cosy kitchen supper. The dining room, accommodating a huge brick chimney breast, includes an oak refectory table, wonderful pictures, shuttered leaded windows andsuperb broad oak floorboards; perfect for any regal dinner party.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

A great night’s rest matters and so we have worked hard to provide what we hope you will find is a luxurious bed. King size and single bedsteads are all from Feather and Black and the mattresses are 6000 pocket sprung. All linen is 200 thread countEgyptian cotton.

The Gold Room has been designed with lavishness in mind. Lit with a 21 arm chandelier, richly appointed and with beautiful wide oak floorboards, this room has an atmosphere of warmth and history. The brass, King-size bed overlooks Water Street, which contains stunning examples of Tudor architecture (including Harry Potter’s house!). A crown post is visible high on the vaulted ceiling and walls. We have done our utmost to ensure that you have a wonderful night’s rest in this unique surrounding.

The French Room is full of grace and comfort too. As the name suggests, much of the furniture and dressing has a French theme which, coupled with the stunning views through mullioned windows of the walled knot garden and some of Lavenham’s historical buildings to the north, offer a truly romantic combination. This room features a King-size brass bed and displays a crown post on the high vaulted ceiling too. A particular feature of this room is the exposed wattle and daub structure containing a shoe placed there for luck.

The Upstairs Bathroom features a wonderful roll top bath and hand shower. There is a delightful Victorian set of scales, where you can hang your towels. Don’t weigh yourself: there are far too many outstanding restaurants for that distraction!

The Indian Room on the ground floor opens up directly into the wonderful knot garden. A charming internal shuttered window peeks into the oak staircase, whileunder floor heating keeps this personal private space fit for a Maharani. 2 pocket sprung single beds are provided.

A Fired Earth Wet Room is located next to the Indian room, where you will find a wonderful circular limestone sink and an unusual glass tile wall.

Outside

The private walled knot garden, with its sheltered position, herbs, low box hedges, shady and hidden seating areas, is there for you to relax in, entertain and have al fresco meals. Gentle outside lighting is provided to extend the evening and a barbeque is on offer too. We encourage you to use the fresh herbs that you will find there as the taste is wonderful. Fruit grown in the garden, including strawberries are available in season as well.

Our Philosophy

We are passionate about quality and supporting our friends in local businesseswherever we can. Jim Lawrence lighting features throughout from Hadleigh. While some of the furniture and art is exotic and collected from our previous travels in India, most has been sourced locally. Further details of the places we used can be found in the house pack and I would highly recommend a look around as we are blessed with some of the best furniture, antiques and art in the country.

The arts are strong here and its no coincidence that Constable and Gainsborough, Britten and John Peel, George Orwell and Clement Freud, Twiggy and Claudia Schiffer all made their homes in Suffolk. It is a stunning county that inspires the very best from you and will leave you with an unforgettable impression and the fondest of memories.

Parking

Free parking is available immediately outside The Tryst, or in the adjacent streets. It is provided on a first come first serve basis, but is rarely too inconvenient.
