Discover: More information about Mill Cottage

Mill Cottage is an idyllic one bedroom eco-friendly romantic cottage recently restored from part of the former historic watermill. Set in its own beautiful Suffolk countryside on a small farm, it has a private garden where the lawn slopes down to the spring-fed mill pond, perfect for wild swimming, rowing and sunbathing. Free-range chickens peck around the yard and provide your fresh eggs for the welcome basket.

Mill Cottage is cosy and very, very eco: a ground source heat pump for under-floor heating, wood-burning stove with free logs, sheep’s wool insulation in the walls and roof, oak floorboards above and handmade floor and wall tiles in kitchen and wet-room. The big mill wheel generates electricity.

Lying at the end of its own half-mile track, it is the perfect place for finding peace and tranquillity. There is no traffic noise, and the farmyard complex where the owners also live is remote from other buildings. The low level of light pollution makes star-gazing at night a real treat.

Country walks start right outside the cottage door with the 70-acre farm plus 300 acres of Suffolk Wildlife Trust land to explore. Local wildlife includes roe and muntjac deer, badgers, hares and rabbits, water voles, kingfishers, barn owls, herons and egrets, greater spotted woodpeckers, and all the usual garden birds, bats, dragonflies and butterflies; a paradise for wildlife photography. The owners, Bob and Anne Cowlin, have had the excitement of passing otters and ospreys. Many of their guests enjoy badger-watching in the woods nearby for their night-life.

Mill Cottage is dog-friendly for well-behaved animals, and there is a fully fenced 11-acre woodland on the farm where you can let your pet off the lead without worrying about s/he getting lost.

Anne runs rural crafts and skills courses on over 50 subjects including everything from beekeeping to badger-watching and making cosmetics from honey and beeswax. You can see details on theeir website . Anyone booking the cottage can have a 10% discount off the price of a course.

So if you are looking for a romantic short break in one of the driest parts of the England, where you can find beautiful walks through Nature Reserves, wild swimming in magical mill ponds, watching the magic of badger cubs …, come to Mill Cottage!
