This is a tiny but beautiful little cottage where a lucky couple can escape the rush and bustle of modern city life and enjoy some precious moments in a romantic and historic Suffolk cottage.

Cottage Walk Through

  • You enter Tiny Birch directly into the main room with its gorgeous Inglenook fireplace and lovely wood burning stove, the house was once the parlour to a much larger house and you can see the old Medieval doorways, long plastered over, that would have led through to the other building.
  • The wealth of beams and original architectural features is a wonderful experience and although small this room is lovely for two people as it has everything you need and a comfortable sofa to snuggle down infront of the roaring log burner and relax into.
  • From this beautiful room you go through to a very well equipped kitchen and out through double patio doors into a small sunny courtyard garden, great for a glass of wine and a BBQ under the vine clad sun shade beams. From the main room you go up the steep stairs into the bedroom with its impressive high ceiling reaching into the ancient rafters.
  • The bathroom is ensuite and has a bath with a decent shower over it.
  • There is room for your Moses Basket if you are bringing a baby but not really space for a proper travel cot, we do not provide bedding, baskets or cots for babies in this cottage.

The Location

  • Tiny Birch is a really sweet little cottage in one of England’s oldest streets but it is quite busy and narrow - so for those seeking a very quiet retreat we have other cottages better suited, on the other hand this cottage is really special for those who want to be in a uniquely historic village location with a welcoming pub and some very old fashioned village shops and lovely countryside walks straight from their front door.
  • Nayland, which is one of Suffolk's famous unspoilt Medieval Villages, is perched on the banks of the River Stour and is full of beautiful Historic Houses - it also has a good pub called The Anchor being on the banks of the River Stour, with excellent food and beer and some good village shops like the butchers and the small mini market and a Post Office General stores.
  • There are walks straight from the cottage into the countryside and up the lanes on the Pilgrims Way to Stoke-by-Nayland where the excellent award winning Crown Pub and the Angel pub are.

What the Guests Say

  • Monday, 27th of November, 2017, Jackie:

Had a fantastic short break and were lucky with the weather as we did lots of walking in the area. The cottage was cosy and like stepping back in time.

  • Monday, 30th of October, 2017, Steve & Debbie:

Wonderful stay at this lovely little cottage in beautiful Nayland. Tiny Birch was a perfect little bolt hole for us and our dog, to escape the madness of daily life and take some time out to enjoy beautiful Suffolk. The welcome pack had everything we needed and could want for lovely breakfasts. Too cold to enjoy the lovely little garden but instead spent our evenings, after long walks, curled up on the sofa with the log burner roaring. Cottage wonderful and a great base for exploring Suffolk, can't wait to return.

  • Sunday, 15th of October, 2017, Helen & Keith:

We've just had a lovely relaxing weekend staying here in Tiny Birch. Very cosy, beautiful decor, great welcome pack with everything we needed. Lucky to have beautiful weather, breakfast in the garden and Sunday sitting outside The Anchor. Will definitely recommend to family and friends. Thanks Emma!

  • Friday, 13th of October, 2017, Dave:

Had an amazing week in Tiny Birch - beautiful cottagewith everything you could need - cosy and warm with a really big comfy bed, gorgeous court yard garden for eating outdoors....

  • Monday, 25th of September, 2017, Adrian & Nicky:

The cottage is wonderful, very cosy. A beautiful village with just about everything you need, set in the wonderful Stour valley. So much history I can only wonder why my ancestors left for a life in Somerset in the 1300's!

  • Sunday, 13th of August, 2017, Gill:

Grove Cottages you never disappoint us, another gem in Suffolk where we have thoroughly enjoyed as we have very high expectations of your cottages.

  • Thursday, 3rd of August, 2017, Adam:

Kersey is as perfect a village as you will find anywhere in England (and I live in the Cotswolds, which is full of contenders). The cottage is comfortable with especially soft beds. I imagine the log burning stove to be a feature of winter stays but the weather was too warm for us to indulge. The best thing for me - apart from the pretty garden was the sheer age of the place. I wish I had a dog to take advantage of the walks - perhaps you should offer to hire them out!

  • Sunday, 19th of March, 2017, Karen & Al:

Wow, what an amazing cosy cottage! Full of charm and character, beautifully decorated. The welcome basket is a lovely touch. A most memorable weekend, thank you both.

  • Sunday, 19th of February, 2017, Chris:

What a cosy and enchanting Christmas. As oasis of calm and tranquility, where we could relax and shed the burdens of the world beyond. Wonderful walks in the crisp winter landscape, friendly pubs and neighbours. Thank you Emma and team - the Christmas tree was a lovely touch x

We absolutely loved this place! Felt so at home right away, the perfect cosy hideaway for a week of studying, relaxing, playing a few games and eating and drinking far too much!! I wish it was my own little bolthole. We also indulged our pyromania with the wood burner!! Thank you.

Just to let you know what a fantastic time Charlie (my Springer Spaniel) and myself had whist staying at your gorgeous cottage. Everything was absolutely perfect - including the weather! The local produce you left was delightful too and made for the most magnificent breakfasts! For the last five years I've had a cunning plan to take a delicious early retirement and settle in the Yorkshire Dales - but now I am thinking of looking a little farther south to Suffolk!

We will be highly recommending this cottage as a tranquil getaway, from a busy, hectic working lifestyle. It was so peaceful to have no technology, and to sit in front of a roaring fire whilst listening to an owl hoot outside!

Three sunny days in Suffolk. Tiny Birch is very special and the village of Nayland offers so much and the surrounding area, great to explore.
