Features of the holiday hut

Borleymere Shepherds Hut is traditionally built for and based upon Huts for shepherds tending their flocks centuries ago.

Well behaved dogs are always welcome, please refer to this webpage  All About Bringing Pets  for charges, rules and how this cottage may suit your pet

It’s very romantic, cosy and has everything you need.

  • This includes a full sized double bed, a fold-away table and chairs, a unit with a small basin, a single gas ring and a cosy wood-burning stove.
  • Outside, there is a really well thought out covered cooking and preparing cabin which has a gas hob and oven, a big Belfast sink, a cool box and hurricane lamp. Whatever the weather this is a comfortable place to make your meals. There is also a barbeque and brazier so you can cook in the open and watch the fish rise and the duck flight onto the Mere.
  • The star of the show is the luxurious shower cabin and loo which is tucked into the edge of the woodland.  It is very well fitted out and is as ecological as can be. The indulgently hot shower has a big rain shower head; in this case not real rain but a luxury Rain style shower head which is really big and the water comes down like rain!
  • The Shepherd’s Hut and its facilities are for two people who want real peace and quiet and a simpler way of life. Where they can come into rhythm with the world, enjoy the stars and the night calls of wildlife rather than television.
  • There are little candles but no telly, no wireless connection and no mains power....  although with a short walk to ‘the pump house’ you can charge your phone and replenish the ice-packs.
  • Borleymere Shepherds Hut is just an amazing and wonderful place to stay, where you will find peace and time to enjoy nature and each other.
  • What is Glamping? We think glamping is all about the romance of camping, in a special private location offering oneness with nature, but with some real ECO luxuries...  And this is where Borleymere Shepherds Hut has some real treats in store for you!

The Location

  • If you have ever dreamed of waking up in a Shepherds Hut in a wildflower meadow, tucked away beside a picturesque mere with woodland around you and just birdsong and the rustling of leaves to listen to as your neighbours; then this lovely place is a real treat for you
  • Just 60 miles outside of London, the romantic little hut and its location really is idyllic.  The wonderful fairy tale Shepherds Hut is just gorgeous and of course the hut is just the beginning of what is offered, because what is really important is the location and here you really have a dream location...
  • The Shepherds Hut is set in a large wildflower meadow, with grassy walks surrounded by secluded and peaceful woodland.  Just a few steps from the hut is the picturesque Mere itself which is a one acre lake surrounded by wildflowers, rushes, willows and reeds.
  • With fish and duck for company you are welcome to go ‘Wild Swimming’. There are pathways meandering around the mere and through the woodland where you can marvel at the richness and variety of flora and fauna. Here you really are in the bosom of the romantic English countryside, and this little piece of paradise is what we call Borleymere.
  • As you cross the tiny lane 200 yards away you see you are in the lovely rolling countryside of East Anglia along the Stour River Valley. There are pretty footpaths wandering in all directions and tiny lanes for you to cycle round until you come across one of our lovely pubs. The local hamlet is steeped in history and like so many around, every house is hundreds of years old and often thatched.

What the Guests Say

  • Friday, 4th of August, 2017, Peter & Wendy:

Our first time at Borleymere and first time in a Shepherds Hut. Now we're asking why we haven't done this before. The tranquility, simplicity and closeness to nature, made this a wonderfully relaxing break. Every time we thought "wouldn't it be good if..." Charlie & Jeremy had beaten us to it - making life as easy as possible. We had lots of plans to go out but found what we enjoyed most was sitting under the gazebo with a book in hand, watching the comings and goings in the pond - including us going for the occasional dip and bobbing about in the boat

  • Thursday, 27th of July, 2017, Julia & Colin:

Thank you for letting us once more share a piece of paradise. Borleymere is a very special and magical place, so unique. We stayed here last year and fell in love with it and the surrounding areas. It is so beautiful and you really think of everything; this year the addition of a gazebo on the decking area. We have enjoyed watching the varied wildlife and rowing on the lake. We have had a lovely time and recommend Borleymere to anyone who loves all that it has to offer. The only hard thing is leaving and having to say goodbye for another year!

  • Friday, 30th of June, 2017, Sarah:

Thank you for sharing your beautiful idyllic haven. The story of it it is inspirational. I travel a lot and this is one of the best places I have ever stayed :) Thank you.

  • Friday, 12th of May, 2017, Clare (and Blade):

As I stare wistfully out across the lake, the gentle wind blowing the trees and sounds of the birds and wildlife all around, I can#t help wondering if I could get away with refusing to leave and claiming 'squatters rights'! This has truly been the most peaceful and relaxing holiday I've ever had! Blade has the same sorrowful look in his eye as we prepare to leave.. think he thought we'd moved to the most wonderful new home. Thank you Jeremy & Charlie for being he perfect hosts and making us feel so welcome. You really have provided every conceivable thing we could possibly need, including the radio (pre-tuned to the country station and even binoculars. It felt like we'd been transported to a private oasis in the middle of nowhere. All the hard work making this place what it is today has clearly been a labour of love, it really is the most magical and beautiful secluded place. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to stay here and we will definitely be back. Thank you both so much.

  • Sunday, 30th of April, 2017, Jessica & Lee:

We have had a wonderful couple of days here. The hut is perfect and we have enjoyed cosy nights with the log burner on, listening to music by candlelight. It has combined Lee's love of camping and creature comforts, such as a lovely soft warm bed. We have enjoyed walks around the lake watching the ducks and geese - we even ventured out in the rowing boat! Thank you Charlie & Jeremy for creating a beautiful, peaceful, calm and tranquil place. We will be telling all our family and friends about Borleymere and we will be back next year to enjoy it all again.

  • Friday, 7th of April, 2017, Heather & Sam:

We have had the best time! Everything about this beautiful place is perfect - attention is given to every last detail. We have had such a relaxing time chilling by the pond, and watching our dogs explore woods and local area, where there are stunning walks. This holiday has been everything we hoped for and more and we feel lucky to have spent time here. Can't wait to return.

  • Friday, 23rd of September, 2016, Wendy & Stu:

Beautiful place to spend my birthday week. Very relaxing and lots of peace and quiet. Brilliantly equipped and the kitchen has everything you could need and extras i.e. bikes and boat. We cannot wait to return sometime next year. Thank you Charlie & Jeremy for creating such a lovely oasis.

  • Monday, 19th of September, 2016, Paula & Phil:

We couldn't have chosen a more perfect way to combine Phil's passion for camping with mine for a warm, comfy bed! Charlie & Jeremy you have created a beautiful oasis here and reading through it has been a real blessing to so many of us - thank you! We loved walking into Sudbury and Long Melford as much as a couple of lazy days on the lake. Phil was slightly disappointed in his newt hunting; but we made friends with the ducks and they're such fun to watch! Already looking forward to coming back - thank you again for your wonderful hospitality and all the little touches that make this place so special.

  • Sunday, 18th of September, 2016, Rachel & Eamonn:

This weekend marks our 10 year wedding anniversary. We had some initial grand plans to go to Venice, but due to childcare arrangements we didn't have enough time, so we looked for romantic locations closer to home that we could really make the most of. Borleymere Shepherds Hut has lived up to and exceeded expectations for a truly romantic weekend. Who needs Venice! You've created a very special place here, with lots of very well thought out little touches, both practical and luxurious. We've thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. I'm sure we'll be back one day.

  • Monday, 12th of September, 2016, Sophie & Paul:

Thank you for such a wonderful stay in the Shepherds Hut. We've had an amazing time; we've cycled into Sudbury (lovely route!), had a BBQ, rowed on the lake in the glorious sunshine, snoozed in the hammock and most importantly relaxed and enjoyed quality time together. The setting here is idyllic, it's clear a lot of thought has been put into creating the perfect location. Everything you could need is here, the attention to detail and finishing touches make for a very comfortable stay. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us, we'll treasure the memories made here. We look forward to returning again. P.s. we've never seen so many stars - amazing!

  • Monday, 5th of September, 2016, James & Kyra:

Thank you for a wonderful stay in paradise! It's been so peaceful here and we couldn't have asked for a better retreat. You've clearly worked so hard over the years to make this the place it is today. We look forward to coming here again.

  • Sunday, 28th of August, 2016, Kirsty & David:

Such an enchanting place to visit. We loved spending a couple of days after our wedding away from the madness of the world. We enjoyed open fires, BBQs and watching nature hovering, not bothered by us. David very much enjoyed lazing in the hammock!! Many thanks for an amazing stay.

  • Thursday, 4th of August, 2016, Ruth & George:

It has all been said before many times so I won't repeat it all but this is a lovely relaxing place. Had one very wet day but when the sun came out it was great. Many thanks Charlie & Jeremy for the warm welcome. The dog has enjoyed the freedom to roam - only lost her once and found her near the pump house waiting to be rescued! Thank you.

  • Sunday, 31st of July, 2016, Becci & Lew:

Came to the Shepherds Hut as a birthday surprise for my partner and what an absolutely love time we have both had here!! I knew it was going to be lovely but it exceeded all my expectations and will certainly not be our only visit here. My partner has even described it as magical so it was a good birthday surprise for him. We used the bikes to visit Long Melford and bought two succulent steaks which we cooked over the wood fire that evening - delicious! Thank you so much Charlie & Jeremy - you really do have a little slice of paradise on your doorstep!

  • Sunday, 24th of July, 2016, Heather & Chris:

We were very lucky for our first weekend away together to be in such a beautiful spot! What a lovely place to lose track of time and find some peace and quiet! Thank you Charlie & Jeremy for all your help. We look forward to returning to the Shepherds Hut!!

  • Friday, 22nd of July, 2016, Karen & Mitch:

The shepherds hut, our shepherds pie, The incessant ballet of the dragon fly, The ugly slugs, the carions vole, What in life is your role? The lovely emperor of the mere, Strutting colours lucid and clear, Fall asleep in a night of romance, Dawn breaks signalled by the tap dance, We we have to pop and get some morsels, But there is no Big Brother here, Nothing to hide from, nothing to fear, Now we're back our bags are full, Looking forward to our afternoon lull, No a dance, some spirit some wine, How can this be so fine, Now to eat and watch stars appear, Never want to leave here....

  • Sunday, 17th of July, 2016, Clare:

Thank you so much for a wonderful albeit all too brief stay at Borleymere. It has been a peaceful pleasure, a well needed break from the stresses and strains of work and everyday life. The hammock in particular is it's own therapy. The lake with it's quiet life another. I think I'll be back!

  • Friday, 15th of July, 2016, Jacqueline & Geoff:

Well! After five days of heavy winds, very heave rain and cold air we have woken to a perfect and beautiful summers day! Our last morning! The perfect weather shows off how idyllic this beautiful place is. It was lovely even during the awful weather but look at it now! Gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home with us.

  • Sunday, 10th of July, 2016, Sean & Bev:

Great place - everything you need on hand in lovely surroundings. Enjoyed peace, quiet and tranquility of the area. We had a great time and would definitely recommend to others. Thanks.

  • Friday, 8th of July, 2016, Sue & Geoff:

Before coming to Borleymere we wondered how we would fare without the luxury of wifi, electricals and a flushing toilet but we needn't have worried. We hadn't anticipated the 5 star touches - the fresh flowers, the quality bedding, the instant hot water. Everything so well thought out and it works. We are in awe of what has been achieved here - the vision the creativeness and the way that the land is managed in partnership with nature. The bird hide and the owl box are new additions which will add to the experience for future days. How do we convey what we have experienced to those back home? The solitude, the abundance of nature, the beauty that is Borleymere. The inspiration is there to write a poem or perhaps paint a picture, but a thousand words would not be enough. Borleymere redefines luxury and has given us the opportunity to reconnect with what is important in life and reconnect and reconnect with each other. Have we soaked up enough of it to lock in the feeling of tranquility and keep it in reserve for when our busy 9-5 lives take over again - we hope so!

  • Saturday, 11th of June, 2016, Jeremy & Charlie:

Wow! Wow! Wow! A wonderful 27th Weddinng anniversary suprise from my husband. A beautiful setting and a secret haven. Thank you :)

  • Sunday, 29th of May, 2016, Sue & Hugh:

We depart after the most wonderfully perfect 3 days we've possibly ever spent in our 43 years together. The moorhens had 3 or 4 babies and today it looks like only 1 - oh dear. However the beautiful rainbow trout loves being fed a few pellets of fish food daily and ducks and dives in a spectacle before our eyes. The Canada geese flew in 2 nights - noisily chatting away before retiring. We loved the boat and the hammock. The hut is beautiful, the bed sumptuous and the shower welcoming and instantly warm. The kitchen is a pleasure to cook in and the brazier at night beautifully warm and cosy. Jeremy & Charlie from it's inception to it's perfection, this has been a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

  • Sunday, 22nd of May, 2016, Paul & Karen:

Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful place and allowing us to be here!! Our dog has had a fabulous first holiday watching all the wild life.

  • Friday, 20th of May, 2016, Mavis & Peter:

After reading the visitor book, I suspect we were a little older than the usual visitors to Borleymere ( and we come for 'up North' !! ) But just to give everyone hope that romance lives on ( it's 47 years since our honeymoon ! ) We've had an amazing time in this wonderful place. Fine weather and sunshine, champagne and smoked salmon by candle-light ( and The Archers Omnibus ! ) . What more could you want !! Coots had 4 babies on Tuesday 17th, Moorhens (very shy at the top of the Mere ) had 6 chicks Thursda. Our first visit to Suffolk and Really Impressed - it's beautiful !! We spotted 7 common Carp and one Rainbow trout. It's obvious this place is a labour of love, and long may it continue. Many Thanks Mavis & Peter

  • Sunday, 8th of May, 2016, Max & Julia:

What a wonderful couple of days we've had ! Thank you very much for creating such a magical place - the views over the lake, wild-life everywhere, Barbecue whilst waiting for the sun to set, waking up to birdsong ( and no other noise ), and all the little beautiful and tasteful details everywhere ! Just wonderful ! Thank you very much, wee'll be back soon ! Max & Julia

  • Sunday, 1st of May, 2016, Gareth and Julie :

We've had another lovely stay at Borleymere Shepherds Hut. So relaxing and in such a beautiful place. We'll be back later in the year Gareth & Julie xx

  • Wednesday, 20th of April, 2016, Ellie & Will with Tui:

After having enjoyed glamping a couple of times before, Borleymere has far exceeded our expectations ! We love the seclusion and our Jack Russell' Tui especially loves this space ! Having originally booked to go to Amsterdam (but sadly having to cancel ) we couldn't imagine a better substitute. Lovely lazy days with our feet up waiting for the arrival of our first baby... ! Thank you so much !! Ellie, Will and Tui.

  • Sunday, 10th of April, 2016, Jodie & Johnny:

and Kyra What a beautiful Surprise ! The surroundings of this Shepherds Hut are just amazing, the weather wasn't great but the setting of the whole experience was fantastic. Who needs nice weather when staying in such an elegant spot with jaw dropping views. Sad to leave but will definitely be staying again

  • Monday, 28th of March, 2016, Simon & Emma with Lola:

Lola, the hound, loved this place A LOT ! ... as did we. We'll be back every year from now on and we'll be recommending you to Everyone. Even the hurricane on our first day didn't ruin this special place. Charlie and Jeremy, you have thought of absolutely everything and have done a perfect job - we literally wanted for nothing. See you soon ! Simon, Emma & Lola

  • Monday, 28th of September, 2015, Danielle:

Thank you so much for letting us share your little piece of heaven. It’s so good to get back to basics and be with nature – although I use the term back to basics, this place has everything you may need. Have enjoyed rowing the boat, wildlife spotting, drinking tea by the fire, playing board games, cosying in bed and beautiful candlelight.

  • Sunday, 27th of September, 2015, Mark & Melanie:

Thank you for a wonderful weekend at Borleymere. Weather was fabulous which meant we were able to ride the bikes to Long Melford. It is such a beautiful place!

  • Friday, 25th of September, 2015, Steve:

Well, this was a very pleasant surprise. This place is packed with charm and charisma that is very hard to come by, at the more “industrial” campsite/holiday park. Very special honeymoon made even more so by the morning sun over the lake and setting sun behind the shepherds hut.

  • Monday, 21st of September, 2015, Paul:

Thank you ever so much for a fabulous stay! We have had a wonderful time. We LOVE the shepherd hut – so cosy, quiet and has everything we needed or our restful break. The boat was brilliant and we loved using the bicycles. Thank you for being great hosts.

  • Friday, 18th of September, 2015, Sophie:

We have had a lovely time! We particularly appreciated how helpful and welcoming you were! A lovely spot very well thought out.

  • Sunday, 6th of September, 2015, Jo:

What an absolutely FANTASTIC 3 nights staying in your shepherds hut. We are so very impressed with all that you have created here – the home comforts of the hut so cosy, the practicality of the “field kitchen” and the “unique” table arrangements all brilliant. Thank you indeed for a truly relaxing break.

  • Friday, 4th of September, 2015, Richard:

Our second to the shepherds hut we enjoyed the stay as much as the first time.

  • Friday, 28th of August, 2015, Sarah:

Thank you for another wonderful stay at the shepherds hut. The weather wasn’t the best but we still had a fantastic time.

  • Sunday, 23rd of August, 2015, Oliver & Rebecca:

Obviously shepherding used to be a very wise career choice if one got to live in a hut like this, with a view like this one. Plenty of easy cycling, and great acoustics for solo guitar. Thank you for a great few days.

  • Sunday, 16th of August, 2015, Christine:

Only six miles from home and such a different world. An amazing place, quiet, wildlife such wonderful sounds. Loved the way we have lived this weekend, so relaxed and happy. Paddling was great fun.

  • Thursday, 13th of August, 2015, Melody & Nemanja:

Thank you Jeremy & Charlie for a warm welcome and a lovely break at Borleymere. We go back to our hectic life in London recharged and with happy memories. The highlight of our stay was coming within a few metres of a young deer on a walk around the lake. We'll miss the bacon in the morning and the sausages at night, but hope to return soon. Lots of love.

  • Monday, 3rd of August, 2015, Melody:

Thank you Jeremy and Charlie for a warm welcome and lovely break in Borleymere. We go back to our hectic life in London recharged and with happy memories. We will miss the bacon in the morning and sausages at night but hope to return soon.

  • Wednesday, 29th of July, 2015, Sam & Kevin:

What an enchanting place. Borleymere has beguiled us with it's beauty and wildlife. It is a place to re-engage with the important things in life. The 'human' necessities are comfortable and more than we expected, but do not detract from the natural beauty and wonder of the surroundings. The lake has a magical quality with it's dancing dragonflies and seemed to call to us constantly! We have loved being here and we would love to come back. Thank you both for making us feel so welcome on arrival. Thanks again.

  • Friday, 17th of July, 2015, Michael:

This was our second stay in the Shepherds Hut and Borleymere was just as idyllic as we remember it! We thought we were unlucky with the weather, but the hut couldn't have been cosier with the kettle whistling and the rain pattering on the roof. It was exactly the relaxing break that we were hoping for and we leave with the same conviction as last year; we will return!

  • Sunday, 12th of July, 2015, Carole & Tim:

Thank you both for yet another perfect holiday. This is our 3rd perfect visit to the Shepherds Hut. Always a new experience, nothing changes but everything is different. All week we followed the progress of a mummy duck and her babies and amazing how many green woodpeckers are here. We have had another wonderful time just chilling, BBQs,'s a wonderful place. See you next year.

  • Tuesday, 7th of July, 2015, Sara & Hayley:

We have never been a couple to visit the same place more than once, but Borleymere is the exception to the rule. Borley is that little piece of sanity that you cannot wait to get back to. The beautiful part of this trip was that we already knew the day to day drill, so it was a bit like 'coming home'. We have once again relaxed and caught up with each other again. Here's to our next viist! Thank you again Charlie and Jeremy, with kindest regards.

  • Friday, 26th of June, 2015, Kev & Jill:

Wow! It was like stepping off the ever turning fast roundabout of modern life, into a small paradise! You can literally feel a weight fall from your shoulders, as you soak up the peace and tranquility of this magnificent place. Hats off to Charlie and Jeremy for creating such a wonderful place. Thank thanks, will see you the next time round.

  • Friday, 19th of June, 2015, Diane & Joe:

We have had such a relaxing time. What a special place. Everything we needed was here. We had fun in the boat on the lake and enjoyed watching the family of ducks. We've seen rabbits, pheasants, lovely blue dragonflies and colourful butterflies. We lit the fire outside most evenings, toasted marshmallows and drank wine. Thank you both, hopefully we will return.

  • Sunday, 14th of June, 2015, J,J & Polly:

My My Shepherds Pie!! It could not have been better. The best way to recharge from a hectic city schedule. This special place had more to offer than we every imagined. The time we spent here was our own special piece of heaven....can't wait to return. Thank you Charlie and Jeremy for creating this special place of peace and tranquility.

  • Friday, 12th of June, 2015, Craig & Lucy:

Glorious weeks holiday for my wife, the dog and I. We cannot wait to come back and recharge our batteries. Everything we could have wished for and more. Many thanks.

We've had a lovely time here again. It's such a perfect place to relax. Thank you.

  • Thursday, 4th of June, 2015, Bob & Jenny:

We have had such a relaxing time here. Quiet, peaceful, chilled. So much to see in surrounding areas, but always wanting to get back to Borleymere, even the weather could not dampen our spirits. We will definitely be back, thank you Charlie & Jeremy for such a nice break.

  • Friday, 29th of May, 2015, Nick & Leanne:

Wow, from the moment we arrived here we were taken away by the tranquility and beautiful setting. Most of all we have enjoyed BBQs, fires and playing cards, taking in the most amazing environment!! Many thanks for an amazing stay.

  • Monday, 25th of May, 2015, Rebecca & Chris:

Wow! We had the most amazing time! From the moment we arrived we knew it was going to be very special indeed! Thank you Charlie and Jeremy for creating such a lovely piece of paradise here! The best was the evenings listening to the radio, drinking red wine, toasting marshmallows, looking at the stars and remembering the importance of quality time together - wish we could have stayed longer!

  • Friday, 22nd of May, 2015, Andrea & Peter:

I (Andrea) was asked if I fancied Paris for my 50th birthday - I turned it down in favour of peace, tranquiity and a Shepherds Hut! Borleymere screamed perfection and so we booked it in order to celebrate a milestone birthday. I have had the most perfect few days - the weather has been warm and sunny allowing me to make the most of everything - lazing in the hammock, soaking up the sun, having a BBQ, wild swimming! Nothing could be more perfect - it was everything we could have wished for and more......

  • Sunday, 17th of May, 2015, Vicky & Guy:

What a magical hideaway - such a luxury to have the place to ourselves and to be able to truly switch off and relax. The hut is beautifully designed with so many thoughtful details. I couldn't imagine a single thing that would make the experience better! Finally the setting - it was magical to have all our meals by the lake to watch the wildlife and enjoy the seclusion. Thank you both for creating such a wonderful hideaway.

  • Sunday, 10th of May, 2015, Kate:

We had a lovely welcome from Charlie and Jeremy. The Shepherd's Hut is just divine especially with the dawn chorus. We can't wait to come back again. Thank you both so much.

  • Friday, 8th of May, 2015, Sue & Sharon:

After our days out it was lovely returning here to watch House Martins over the lake during the day and Bats at night. The Shepherd's Hut was very comfortable and cosy - we lit the log burner one night and it was a magical experience.

  • Friday, 1st of May, 2015, Adam & Gemma:

We've had a lovely break at Borleymere. The peace and tranquility is just what we were after. It is amazing what has been created here in less than 20 years. The hut is perfect and we love the attention to detail. Lots of lovely walks locally but it was always a pleasure to return to Borleymere!

  • Sunday, 26th of April, 2015, Michael & Maddie:

We had an amazing week at Borleymere, it is a wonderful break from the world. In particular we enjoyed the lovely wildlife on the lake. We were very lucky to be able to see the newly hatched goslings wandering around. It is a very well set up and organised place, that we found utterly peaceful and amazing. Thank you for a great break!

  • Friday, 17th of April, 2015, Kate & Bill:

Borleymere is a delightful retreat from the world. You have it so very well organised and it is marvellous to find outdoor living made so easy... more than anything, time spent outside the Shepherd's Hut lazing in the chairs or the hammock, is a joyful pleasure and, we suspect, never long enough!

  • Monday, 6th of April, 2015, Becky & Ben:

This weekend break was bought for us as a wedding present from our friend, who is a shepherd. The whole weekend has been wonderful from start to finish and we are very sad to be leaving. Beautiful views over the lake and just the peaceful sounds of birds all around, we have never been so relaxed. Thank you so much for sharing and creating this tranquil escape.

  • Sunday, 19th of October, 2014, Bryony & Rich:

Borleymere is pure Escapism! We had a wonderful weekend in the cosy, charming hut and being surrounded by nature. We enjoyed a cycle ride around the local villages and pubs! Such a beautiful corner of the world and a unique way to experience it. Thank you for the warm welcome and for sharing your inspiring setting - we will be back! Best wishes from a very relaxed and rejuvenated, Bryony & RIch xxx

  • Monday, 13th of October, 2014, Sara & Hayley:

After a disasterous holiday/honeymoon in a 5* hotel overseas, my wife and I decided to have a mini break, as a bit of a second honeymoon. All we can say is woweee.....I wish we had booked this as our original honeymoon. Borley is beautiful, tranquil, peaceful and safe. I cannot remember the last time we felt so relaxed and easy. Spending this quality time here has been the tonic we both needed. Thank you so much Charlie & Jeremy, words cannot express our gratitude - it's all so perfect.

  • Sunday, 5th of October, 2014, Misty & Michael:

This has been the most amazing holiday - beautiful location, wonderful Shepherds Hut and everything so thoughtfully prepared. I would choose this over a 5* hotel any day, and only wish I could choose it over my normal life! Thank you so much.

  • Sunday, 28th of September, 2014, Tony & Lorraine:

"There was movement at the station, for the word had passed around, that the colt from old Regret had got away!" The opening lines from the Man from Snow River by AB (Banjo) Pattinson. That;s what we felt like here in the Shepherds Hut - like Australian Drovers! A magic experience, thank you.

  • Monday, 22nd of September, 2014, Pete & Karen:

We came with every intention of visiting many of the local villages, sights, hostelries and walking the local footpaths, but it didn't quite work out. With one exception (a day trip to the seaside), we came under the spell of Borleymere and it's fabulous wildlife! Apart from short trips for essentials, we quickly developed a routine of making a cuppa and soaking in the sights and sounds of this amazing haven of peace and privacy. Congratulations to Charlie & Jeremy for what they have created and for letting us share it with them.

  • Friday, 19th of September, 2014, David & Jacqueline:

Thank you for letting us share your amazing haven of tranquility. It was lovely to see how you transformed a farm field, into a truly stunning and unique setting for nature and also for people to get away, from the humdrum of their busy lives. We have had the most relaxing holiday in your stunning Shepherds Hut, which you have lovingly kitted out, giving it a cosy, warm homely feel.

  • Thursday, 11th of September, 2014, Anastasios:

"Breathing in, the suns warmth Breathing out, all my restless moments Breathing in, the gentle breeze Breathing out, all my worries and anxieties Breathing in, all my fears Breathing out, and let things go" Thank you and well done for creating such a great habitat. See you and gratitude

  • Friday, 5th of September, 2014, Jo & Nick:

An absolutely beautiful spot and an amazingly relaxing few days. We read, slept in the hammock in the sunshine, cycled to Cavendish for a pint at The George and to Lavenham for a cream tea.Sat out till late with a glass of wine watching the stars come out - really quite perfect.

  • Friday, 29th of August, 2014, Sarah & Stu:

Thank you for another wonderful stay in the Shepherd's Hut. This was our 4th stay and it is still as gorgeous, relaxing and wonderful as ever. Come rain or shine it's just a beautiful place. Thank you for a relaxing few days which was just what we needed.

  • Sunday, 24th of August, 2014, Sharon & John:

What a lovely break away from the norm. The lake is an amazing view and brings so much wildlife - the best part were the bats at dusk. We walked to Long Melford and back with our dog which was a lovely walk and a great town. We had a great wedding anniversary in a quaint village with a wonderful setting.

  • Monday, 11th of August, 2014, Sarah & Simon:

Thank you for creating something so relaxing in such an idyllic setting. We've had a fabulous time - even swimming in the lake - it's not as cold as you imagine! We will be back again one day when we're in desperate need of some quiet time. Thanks again for such a wonderful weekend.

  • Friday, 8th of August, 2014, Richard & Sue:

  • Sunday, 3rd of August, 2014, Brad & Natasha:

Wow! You couldn't have created a more beautiful place. So tranquil and calm, it was exactly what we desperately needed! Had lots of fun rowing on the beautiful clear water. I even braved a couple of swims. Thank you so much Charlie & Jeremy, we will be back next year.

  • Friday, 1st of August, 2014, Carole & Ty:

This is our second visit to the Shepherd's Hut. We have had a fantastic chilled time here and the weather has been perfect. The abundance of wildlife never ceases to amaze us, especially the early morning visit from a local squirrel, who was trying to rustle up something in our kitchen! Always sad to leave but we know we will back next year, to see the changes.

  • Sunday, 27th of July, 2014, Jenna & Jon:

We have had such an amazing time. It is just so beautiful! We had a look through the folder with photos showing how you created this stunning environment. It is truly inspiring! I was slightly reluctant to try wild swimming, but I'm so glad I did! We will definitely be back again.

  • Friday, 25th of July, 2014, Rachael & Philip:

We arrived to a 'Just Married' sign and a warm reception from Mopsy and your woofers, and it just carried on getting better from there. The perfect remedy for a long time of wedding planning and stress. Our honeymoon here has been perfect, with not a drop of rain to dampen it! I'm sure we will return for our future anniversaries.

  • Sunday, 13th of July, 2014, Ann & Robert:

Another stay at the Hut, which was as lovely as ever.

We couldn't think of a better way to unwind after our wedding, then spend our "mini-moon" at the Shepherd's Hut. Most of our time was spent lazing in the hammock or rowing on the lake. Would love to come back in the winter to enjoy the woodburner.......many thanks for a fab stay.

  • Sunday, 25th of May, 2014, Sasha & Kevin:

You couldn’t find a more idyllic place than Borleymere. They say love is in the eye of the beholder, well we have both fallen in love with this place and in love with each other more. Borelymere has loving been created by Charlie and Jeremy. It is so beautifully been thought out. The wildlife is just stunning and there is nothing more romantic at dusk, just as the sun disappears and the candle glowing in the background with a nice glass of wine and the brazier burning as the night wildlife comes to life.

  • Sunday, 11th of May, 2014, Charles & Denise:

When we booked we imagined going out every night and exploring the area. We haven’t moved from what can only be described as the most perfect place. Thank you for allowing us to share this special place. We very much look forward to seeing you again soon.

  • Monday, 5th of May, 2014, Simon:

A perfect slice of tranquillity.... We have had a really lovely weekend relaxing and getting away from it all! We bought lots of books to read but listening to the birds and rowing around the lake meant we hardly had time to read them! A fantastic weekend – can’t wait to come back.

  • Thursday, 24th of April, 2014, Robyn & Jack:

Absolutely idyll spot surrounded by nature. At times the noise of the birds is almost deafening! Watched the goslings take their first swim and the song of their people at five in the morning was particularly enjoyable. Lovely to see the reed warblers building their nest just next to the hut. Enjoyed living our Swallows and Amazons fantasies rowing the boat. Highly recommend!

Wow we stepped into me own little bit of heaven. What a beautiful secluded spot to spend our honeymoon with blossom in the trees, primroses and early bluebells in the wood. We have enjoyed watching mother goose sit on her nest, young ducklings first swim and bats fly in the evening, not to mention the afternoon we spend on the boats maiden voyage, drifting around the lake in the bright sun before retiring to the beautiful cosy Shepherds Hut as darkness drew in. Could not have asked for a more magical special honeymoon, thank you for creating it, we’re already hoping to return soon!
