The Old Forge is Grade II listed and in the centre of the picturesque village of Boxford overlooking the 15th Century church of St. Mary's.

You enter The Old Forge straight into the main room through the old coach doors where there is a cosy sofa and dining area with a fully equipped kitchen. The room has Oak flooring, Oak beams and is furnished with period furniture. Up the lovely handcrafted stairs there is a really beautiful vaulted and beamed bedroom and a designer ensuite shower bathroom.

There has been some excellent Master Carpentry used to create the living areas and this with a careful eye for design and comfort gives the place a very stylish and relaxing feel and being in Boxford could hardly be better placed to enjoy the beautiful countryside and unique medieval hamlets and villages that dot this outstandingly beautiful area.

Boxford would be my first choice as a village to live in with its 4 lovely old fashioned shops, 2 excellent pubs - one a gastropub - and the countryside never more than a short stroll away.

What The Old Forge lacks in size it more than makes up for in elegance, style and location and this place is a big favourite for guests looking for an affordable but stylish place to get completely away from the stresses of city life for a few days.

There are bicycles to explore the pretty South Suffolk Cycle Route that passes in front of The Old Forge and there are lovely walks straight from it into the fields or the Nature reserve and lakes of the valley that Boxford nestles into.

All prices include vat, towels, soap, linen, heating, a 'Proper English Breakfast' welcome pack and a supply of breakfast basics like real coffee and tea etc.

Well behaved pets are always welcome, please refer to this web page  All About Bringing Pets  for charges and how this cottage may suit your pet.

The cottage is a complete little home and facilities include modern heating, TV, DVD player, books, games and a fully equipped kitchen including electric hob and oven and a microwave.
A travel cot is provided for babies (please bring your own bedding)

There is a lovely nature reserve that you can walk to from The Old Forge, it starts in the field behind the village and goes for miles along the river Valley, it is a lovely quiet place with all kinds of surprising plant life and birds, There were lots of orchids there when I took these photos in June 2008...

The South Suffolk Cycle route passes right in front of the door and bicycles are provided.

There is a really great Modern Jazz venue which is based at Stok by Nayland Hotel. They have sessions every Friday at 8.30.

There are many really lovely walks all around which usually end at an excellent pub and there are very good Gastro Pubs and restaurants scattered all over the area.

The outstanding feature of this area is that it is so very rural and pretty with tiny medieval hamlets and small villages dotted along a spiderweb of single track lanes that even the locals get lost in, it really is amazing that this beautiful region is just an hour and a half from London.

Please check out my 'Insiders Guide' to this area which is on the front page or click this link... www.grove-cottages.com

Below is a recent article about the Suffolk Coast

Joanna Symons, Telegraph Travel Newspaper January 2nd 2010.

'Popular though the Lake District and West Country are as tourist destinations, they can be rather damp. If you want to reduce the risk of a rainy holiday, statistics show that you should head east.

Suffolk for instance, had only about a third as much rainfall as the Lake District last summer. It also happens to have one of the loveliest stretches of coastline in Britain.

The Met office regional statistics per annum.

                        The Lake District             Suffolk

Rain fall         2300 - 3900mm          600 - 660 mm
