This lovely Barn conversion is right at the end of Mersea Island and adjacent to the famous Nature Reserve of Cudmore Grove Country Park.
This is an excellent place to enjoy the rich wildlife of Mersea Island from the comfort of a beautiful Barn conversion on a lovely old farm; it is just a short stroll through the adjacent nature reserve to the Nature of Cudmore Grove to the beach - here you can really exhaust a dog and enjoy the beauty of the salt marshes where seals bask and you become very aware of the ever changing light relationship between sky, marsh and sea.
Bromans Barn itself is very eco friendly with sheep's wool insulation and ground heat source pump supplying hot water and under floor heating - it also has its own organic vegetable and herb beds for guests to freely use.
As with all the cottages everything is supplied to provide you with a stress free and enjoyable stay, including bedding, linen, towels, basic supplies, a lovely breakfast welcome basket, maps and bikes for you to explore the area, you can even bring your own dinghy, windsurf or kayak !
This is a very creative conversion of an old Barn, an although impressively spacious is also very cosy and relaxing, the sun streams in through the many windows and in the evenings there is a lovely cosy log wood burner to enjoy.
As Bromans Barn is all on the ground floor and has a very large 'wet room' bathroom it is it also ideal for guests who have limited mobility problems.
What you see the main room does change a little bit in different photos as more lovely items are being made or bought. I will be taking the final photos of this special place quite soon, so revisit this page again and perhaps they will be up.
There is also a dishwasher and fridge in the kitchen. A cot and high chair is available and there are bikes to explore the lovely countryside which starts just 50 yards away.
Well behaved pets are always welcome, please refer to this web page All About Bringing Pets for charges and how this cottage may suit your pet.
All prices include vat, towels, soap, linen, heating, a 'Proper English Breakfast' welcome pack, a beasket of logs and packet of firelighters.
The cottage is a complete little home and facilities include modern central heating with cosy under-floor heating, TV, DVD player, books and a fully equipped kitchen including electric hob and oven and a microwave.

Bromans Barn is on Mersea Island which is off the North Essex Marshes near Colchester.
The area is famous for its oyster beds and wildlife and if you want to get completely out of the city atmosphere you could hardly find something more opposite and so close to London.
The cottage is adjacent to Cudmore Grove Nature Reserve and there are lovely walks through this area and down to the beaches where the seals sunbath and tidal birds make their wonderful calls. You can walks for miles and miles exploring the shoreline which varies from cliffs to mudflat wildernesses, it is a very different and visually intriguing landscape.
Please check out this website created by Dougal Urquhart the Ranger at Cudmore Grove, it gives a real insight into the uniqueness of this place and the love that people have for this area: Mersea Wildlife
The owners of Bromans Barn provide bicycles for you to explore the island or you can even bring your own Dinghy, Kayak or surf board.
I will be updating this page soon but there are a few images I hurriedly took on the morning of June the 6th 2008 and thank you to Dougal Urquhart for allowing me to borrow photos from his excellent blog site .
You don't visit The Company Shed for its opulent decor - Formica tables are as posh as it gets - and you don't go for fancy recipes since there are none; you go because you love seafood. And you eat it here in the proper
way: with your fingers and nothing added, save a generous hunk of fresh, crusty bread and a glass of ice-cold white plonk - extras that you must bring yourself. 'The Shed' sells seafood and nothing else.
“Fantastic seafood, next to the fishing boats on the quay” draws legions of visitors to this “remote” and rather “bizarre” shed; “arrive very early to ensure a table”, and don’t forget to “bring your own wine, salad, bread and so on”.
Yes it is a 'Shed' and it is in the boat yard - but it has rave reviews from The Guardian, The Times, The Independent and practically every food magazine. An unmissable experience.
