The Old Monkey is situated on the outskirts of the once Royal Viking Town of Hadleigh, an important medieval Market Town, the wealth of which was based on the wool trade.
The buildings of Hadleigh exhibit a variety of architectural styles that represent seven centuries of living and working in the community with 250 listed for their historical interest. While now brimming with shops and services found in any modern day town, Hadleigh uses the original buildings to house the popular high street shops retaining its historical beauty, such as the old fashioned shops like the fabulous 'Partridges farm Shop' and a great little coffee house / bar with a private terrace in the high street called Crabtrees.
There is a pretty river walk around the back of the village and a fabulous two and a half mile (3½ km) Hadleigh Railway Walk which follows the disused railway line that linked Hadleigh to Ipswich.
