The Cottage

This Historic 17th Century Coach House has been very sympathetically renovated and converted into a lovely romantic holiday cottage with the emphasis on luxury and its unique 'Walled Garden' and the use of a private wildflower meadow nearby.

The Coach House is a special retreat for a couple and is one of our many romantic holiday cottages near London. The Coach House has been given a Gold Award by the Tourist Board for exceptional quality of accomodation and customer service for 2009 - 2010 - 2011 - 2012 - 2013 - 2014.

As you can see it has the very unique feature of having its own lovely 17th Century Walled Garden to close out the world, plus a nearby private Wildflower Meadow with nut and fruit trees and an ancient thatched Summer House. Here you can completely cocoon yourself in a wildlife sanctuary and gaze at the stars at night, keeping warm with a cheerful pot bellied BBQ. Special indeed.

You enter the property from an inner courtyard and come into a hall with a good sized utility room with laundry facilities.

A steep winding staircase leads you up into the well appointed kitchen, to the left is the large and airy main room with its high ceiling and stylish high quality furnishings. The arched leaded windows and welcoming sofas give a very comforting and cosy feel to the place.

On the other side of the kitchen is a very cosy bedroom and a shower room. Due to the steep stairs to the living area on the first floor we do not advise this cottage for those with mobility issues or pregnant mums and we cannot accept crawling babies or children here.

The Meadow at the gorgeous property has many lovely wild rose, nut, quince, apple, cherry and pears trees dotted around the paths that leads up to an ancient thatched Summer House. Here you are completely in your own world and you can enjoy the beauty of a real English wildflower meadow all day and watch the stars at night and while you tend the little BBQ provided. What could be more relaxing?

The Location

The Coach House is self catering and situated in the very small pretty Village of Ridgewell on the Village Green, just 100 yards from the the local pub, you can see most of Ridgewell in the photos below, there is a tiny dead-end lane next to the Cottage, which runs down to the Church and from there you can walk over the meadows and along the footpaths that surround the village.

Ridgewell is close to Clare which is famous for its antique warehouse and auctions and is just 15 minutes from Long Melford of 'Lovejoy' fame. To find out more about the attractions of the local area, including the lovely Pubs & Restaurants, please click on this link: 'Coach House'

This is the little dead-end lane beside The Coach House that leads to The Church and some of the lovely countryside walks.

I took these photos on the first sunny day of Spring, just wait till you see the wildflower meadow in full bloom.

The meadow has a pond and 3 water courses and is specially tended    The local pub just across the village green.

Absolutely fantastic accommodation and location. Everything you need for a relaxing weekend away.

  • Monday, 1st of August, 2016, Tim:

We had the best and most relaxing long weekend break. We loved it here, peaceful, calm and met all our needs and expectations. Especially enjoyed the garden. Heaven, thank you.

  • Friday, 22nd of July, 2016, Kirsten & Paul:

The Coach House is delightful! Really loved every minute of our stay and were so lucky with the weather that we spent lots of time in the paddock and the walled garden. Lots of great bike rides nearby and even on a really hot day the circular cycle ride we did to Clare was lots of fun and loads to see on the way. Beautiful countryside and close to Long Melford, Lavenham and Bury St Edmunds not too far away.

  • Thursday, 30th of June, 2016, Pippa:

Fabulous stay in the gorgeous Coach House! Welcome basket was a lovely treat to arrive to. We enjoyed the cottage so much we stayed in most evenings! Thank you for letting us stay, it was wonderful.

  • Thursday, 19th of May, 2016, Berry:

The Coach House is delightful. I has everything you need including the basic cupboard items - not including the basket of goodies for your first breakfast. The full length window looking out to the village green is a lovely feature. The furnishings are of a high standard and two large sofas to relax in after a hard days cycling, were much appreciated. All this plus a private walled garden and a paddock full of wildflowers to wander through - stunning!

  • Friday, 8th of April, 2016, Ewa & Mark:

We were pleasantly surprised by the welcome basket! Lovely idea and lovely items. We wanted a quiet and cosy place to get away and that's exactly what we got. You have a lovely place!

As with our last stay, lovely, peaceful at Grove Cottages. The Bakery is lovely and cosy, we stayed at Dons Barn last time which is just as nice. We enjoy being able to bring the dogs to somewhere where you are not treated as second class, Grove team got it right, if your dogs behave, you can enjoy first class standards - well done.
