Description

The Honeymooners' Favourite; The Bakery is an extremely cosy and romantic cottage. The Bakery has been given a Gold Award by the Tourist Board for exceptional quality of accomodation and customer service for 2009 - 2015.

The Cottage

  • The Bakery retains many characterful and original features like its ancient 'Suffolk White' brick floor, lots of old beams and massive built in 'kettle' which was State of the Art in 1700 for doing the laundry and making beer. The high vaulted wooden bedroom ceiling, old reclaimed wood floors, lime washed hand plaster walls and cosy antique furniture all combine to provide a relaxed 'lived in' cosy atmosphere.

  • It has a pretty fire built into the ancient baking oven, which you can watch as you sink into the comfy sofa and enjoy the sunset over the orchard garden.

  • The Bakery is one of the six holiday cottages which make up part of the double quadrangle of the Grove Farm. It's tucked away at the corner of the orchard garden, giving honeymoon guests an even more private nook to view the world from.

  • You enter the main room with its lovely brick floor and large, handmade French windows at the far end leading into the sunny orchard. There is a hand built ash wood kitchen with belfast sink and gas hob, grill and oven to your right. The cottage has a TV with built in DVD player.

  • Upstairs there is a large bedroom with a big brass bed and a wonderful memory foam mattress. The floor is made of polished, reclaimed wood and the ceiling has all the beams exposed with more wood placed behind the beams giving a very cosy but expansive feel to the room. The end of the room is partially divided off with a heavy brocade wall drape which accentuates the character of the room and provides a cosy armchair reading area beside the far window.

  • There is an en suite bathroom with a large shower and antique sink and lovely Kilims and rugs throughout the cottage.

  • Dog owners please note there is an acre of dog excercise Orchard and meadow at The Bakery - plus footpaths directly from the cottage into open countryside with a lovely dog friendly pub just a 15 minute walk away.

  • This is one our most romantic cottages and has a very special atmosphere about it - please read the guest comments below to get an insight into what people think of the cottage.

The Location

  • We are just outside a tiny hamlet and three fields away from The Edwardstone 'White Horse' our local CAMRA Pub, which also brews its own excellent cider and beer - putting them to good use on it's live music nights.

  • Cycle routes run past the cottage, and the prettiest of Suffolk famous medieval villages like Lavenham, Long Melford, Polsted and Nayland are close by.

  • There are bicycles available for guests to use and a canoe is available to hire to explore the lovely River Stour where John Constable painted "The Haywain" at Flatford.

  • To find out more about the attractions of the local area, including the lovely pubs and restaurants, please click on this link: 'The Bakery'

  • We have a very large private car park and a dog exercise area covering over an acre in size, slightly removed from the cottages so guests can enjoy even more peace and quiet and dog owners don’t have to walk bleary eyed down the country lanes first thing in the morning.`

Pure tranquility. Great to unwind. Quality. These are not just some cheap cottages. Grove Cottages are top of the range little homes, that only use quality like Alessi dishes and Fissler frying pans. Even the old bicycles are stylish. The orchard is beautiful and there is ample space to park your car. There is a romantic lit up BBQ area in an old barn. We'll be back. It's just too beautiful!!

  • Friday, 22nd of August, 2014, Karen & Terry:

I usually stay in 2 'Premier Cottages' each year. This time was different as it was a last minute break. I was very impressed by the Bakery, your website and speed/politeness of response and welcome. The cottage is beautifully presented. I like your eco-friendly approach. The written literature was super-really informative and useful. Travis the Spaniel was very happy and the stone floor very dog friendly. All in all, just a fabulous cottage holiday!

We stay at a lot of different places and often feel let down on arrival that the place is not as it appears in the pics on internet. Not so here, it's the first time we've felt the pics just don't do it justice. The actual experience is difficult to capture in a picture - It surpasses what is already v.good on internet. Bono the dog agrees...He felt very welcome and the dog biscuit a lovely touch!

  • Friday, 2nd of April, 2010, Elizabeth and Mark:

Excellent dog walks - wildlife we spotted were deer, fallow, golden Plovers in a flock, munkjac and otter tracks, buzzard, lapusing, linnets, gold finches, moorhen and of course less wild 'the ducks'. Interesting churches and local history to be discovered - good art galleries in Lavenham particularly the contemporary art gallery of Paul Evans and the wildlife one. The tapestry shop is good too with tapestries from Belgium well worth a look, and local crafts as the Kersey Pottery not to be missed.

Peaceful, safe, happy weekend which included two beautiful walks using the U.S map you provide. So lucky to have sunshine too! Thank you for creating such heavenly holiday cottages. We have had a week away together and have managed to let the whole real world disappear just for a short while as we explored beautiful Suffolk. Max the cat has been our companion and his gorgeous furry body has kept our knees and feet warm many times. What a lovely cat! Go to the Great House in Lavenham for wonderful food - We did and my wonderful boyfriend asked me to marry him there! And I said yes! So we leave with very special memories and we will definately return- and yes I think we did give D and T a run for their money! (D and T's comments could not be published due to being too x-rated!

A very peaceful place and great for quiet contemplation but also a big adventure for toddlers who like ducks, chickens, tractors, bikes, deer, dogs, cats, and Autumn leaves.

We had a perfect weekend break. The Bakery is very cosy and the mattress, duvet and pillows were so comfy, and the bath towels so fluffy. It was an effort to get out and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and abundance of things to do. We highly recommend Grove Cottages, and hope to return.

Wonderful time. Great welcome to a beautiful cottage, with music playing quietly as we arrived, and flowers to move us - a breakfast hamper to fill us. The eggs were delicious. Warm, friendly and helpful hosts. Thank you so much. A real bolthole away from the rush of life and quietness to be together.

It was a brave step to book our honeymoon here sight unseen, but I could not have wished for a more perfect setting. The attention to detail, superb interior design and stunning over all effect made this a place I would recommend to anyone who respects and searches for beauty. Antique hunting (& finding !), canoeing down the Stour & gourmet dining

When we pulled up into the car park, the welcome we received was wonderful and when we entered our beautiful cottage we knew that the Rest & Relaxation that we desperately needed was going to be ours for the weekend. This cottage has been our sanctuary & the peaceful, homely and relaxed atmosphere will be remembered by us always. Thank you.

Have stayed at other Grove Cottages and as always high standards. Love to get away from London and have some chill time. Suffolk is a beautiful county and we always enjoy our time here.
