Description
Checklist:
Kick off your shoes, stare into the fire and relax in rural bliss.
Great style and a very relaxed atmosphere is what this cottage has to offer.
Enjoy the beautiful worn Suffolk White brick floor, the old kilims, rugs and quirky antiques and art that Mark has collected over the years.
Relax into the big comfy sofas and you will realise that actually you don't want to go out, just being here sitting right now in this chair is exactly what you want: Relaxation has arrived !!
This is a comfy cottage full of eclectic character and quirky features, downstairs it has a stunning inglenook fireplace with a massive open log fire ready to go in it - above which hangs the old poacher's gun we found hidden away in the barn - a big farmhouse table for friends to gather round and sofas and chairs to relax into.
Upstairs there are two lovely large bedrooms with peaceful views over the Orchard and onto the countryside beyond.
One bedroom with a big double brass bed and one with a double and a single brass bed - this second bedroom is great for a couple of friends or nearly friends to share and if not friends at all then there is an emergency bed (for extra payment of £25) on the landing bringing the total capacity in an emergency to 6 but better to stick to four or five if your staying more than two nights.
There is also a pretty shower room upstairs and exposed beams everywhere, a wonderful high vaulted and beamed ceiling and lovely reclaimed wood floors.
The walls are soft red brick from the original 1720's build, with some lime-washed hand plastering.
Orchard Cottage was created out of the old hay and pigeon lofts that made up part of the long Eastern wall of the old enclosed farm quadrangles first built in the 1720's. It is our biggest cottage on the Old Grove Farm and where this all started and the template for all the cottages on my website was created.
This is an exceptional cottage where you can enjoy the wonderful unspoilt rural countryside of Suffolk, explore the wonderful Medieval Villages like Long Melford, Kersey and Lavenham and best of all come home to a place where you can enjoy every second just relaxing in.
There are 2 lovely bedrooms with high beamed ceilings
Orchard Cottage is one of the six cottages which make up part of the double quadrangle that is the old Grove Farm. It's on the sunny side facing the Orchard garden.
We provide a complimentary Breakfast Welcome Basket to make life easier: fresh roast & ground coffee, instant coffee, tea, milk, sugar, organic eggs, bacon, butter, Lavenham bread, tomatoes plus olive oil, pepper & salt & fresh herbs from the garden. I try to give you eggs from my bantams but they are very temperamental - goodness knows where they get that from ! ... and I usually have some honey from my own bees for sale.
There are lovely mature orchard gardens at the front of the cottage where guests can laze around and have a BBQ in Summer and there is an acre of Orchard at the back of the barns where I have established some peaceful areas and planted some very rare apple trees.
We have a very large private car park and a dog exercise area so the cottages can enjoy even more peace and quiet and dog owners don’t have to walk bleary eyed down the country lanes first thing in the morning.
I have two lovely Canadian canoes which I can lend to guests if I am around as I need to transport them down to the River Stour (£45) where you can canoe along this romantic hidden treasure.
I also prove bicycles for guests to use for free and maps to try to guide them around the spidersweb of tiny lanes linking the great pubs and pretty little villages.
This is a very cosy cottage where you can loose yourself not just in the tiny pretty lanes around but just by relaxing in the sofa and enjoying the massive log fire.
Well behaved Dogs are always welcome, please refer to this web page All About Bringing Pets for charges and how this cottage may suit your pet.
