Description

Malt Cottage is the latest renovation project from Sara and Kevin who previously renovated one of our most popular cottages; Cobblers Cottage

Cottage Walk Through

  • Upon entering, it scoops you up and gives you an enormous hug. Character and charm overflows from every room. On a cold winters night there is nothing cosier than curling up on the Knoll sofa in front of the open fire. The sitting room was the main room for the original hall house and dates from 1420.

  • The kitchen, dining room and garden room are bathed with sun throughout the day. All open up and overflow onto a beautiful patio and enclosed private garden. Settle down into the wing back chair in the study with a book from the well-stocked library. You may discover, as one of our guests did, that it is the perfect room in which to practice the cello!

  • Upstairs are two good sized double bedrooms. Like something out of Alice in Wonderland, you may have to duck as you walk through the small door at the top of the stairs where you will find yourself transported into a magnificent room, fit for a princess, with it’s majestic vaulted ceiling and furnished with French antiques and textiles.

  • The second bedroom is so bright and cheerful, you can’t help but be uplifted when you wake up in the morning under an antique Indian Wedding Arch, full of embroidered symbols of good wishes and hope.

  • The huge roll top bath in the upstairs bathroom allows you to soak away your stresses and strains, while the delightful wet room downstairs provides an uplifting and invigorating shower.

  • The whole house has been beautifully decorated. The coloured lime washed walls give warmth and comfort. The carefully selected antique furniture is certainly more chic than shabby and perfectly reflect the splendour of this historically important 15th century hall house.

  • Wherever possible, Sara has added layers of texture and colour with a collection of handmade rugs and textiles from her shop ‘The Rug and Carpet Studio’ in nearby Long Melford (guests at Malt Cottage are offered a 10% discount at Sara's shop).

  • There is a private off-road car park at the end of the garden just for Malt Cottage. Malt Cottage adjoins Cobblers Cottage - they are totally separate cottages, but could be booked together with access through the connecting garden.

  • The second bedroom in Malt Cottage can also be arranged to accommodate two children as the king-size bed can be split into two single beds.

The Location

  • Nayland is a beautiful village on the banks of the river Stour with a few well-stocked local shops, a great butcher who also sells fresh bread, cheese and vegetables. The Anchor is a fabulous riverside pub and there two other very good pubs within walking distance of the cottage.

  • Nayland is surounded by beautiful countryside ideal for walking and exploring The River Stour, The Pilgrims Way and Dedham Vale; which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are many beautiful walks into the countryside straight from the cottage.

What the Guests Say

We have used Grove Cottages several times. Always found the accommodation to be quirky, well loved and extremely comfy. Malt Cottage was no exception and in truth one of the nicest we have stayed in. The warm welcome from Kevin really started the weekend off well. The beds were heavenly and left us waking up refreshed and ready to enjoy the weekend. Wonderful stay- thank you Kevin & Sara.

A beautifully furnished cottage with many lovely touches including a wonderful Christmas tree. A fantastic 4 day break, away from the "norm". Thank you - we will definitely be back! The cottage is incredibly well stocked for cooking etc and is immaculately presented with lots of thoughtful additions. The best of all the cottages we have stayed in.
