Description

This stunning cottage was once home to the miller of Plomesgate Mill but is now available to five lucky guests! Filled with wonderful antiques, beautifully restored surfaces, stunning textiles and the finest attention to detail - all combining to provide a very tasteful and completely original, luxury period experience.

The Cottage

  • Laundry Cottage is a Jacobean dream full of original character and quirky features like the amazing Breton bed built straight into the wall, the working 1800's kitchen range (for fun and chesnuts only) and the gorgeous antique Oak Four Poster Bed.

  • A very special feature of this lovely historical cottage is that it is next to its own private Nature Reserve which you are invited to enjoy, please click here for photos and info.

  • You enter the cosy and romantic holiday cottage through an enclosed little courtyard that is completely private, and ideal for breakfasts. This leads into the gorgeous farmhouse style kitchen; a light and airy room with leaded windows to three aspects.

  • The kitchen still retains a cosy open fireplace with a working Victorian Range and brick floor, together with the beamed ceiling this makes a perfect place to settle back by the glow of the coals in the evening after a leisurely meal and allow yourself to be transported back to years gone by.

  • The kitchen discreetly also has a modern electric Bosch double oven and electric hob, dishwasher, fridge and microwave - and someone else blacks the antique range for you! There is a quirky old wooden armchair and farmhouse table to gather around for meals.

  • Behind an old door and winding up from the kitchen is the narrow staircase to the Master Bedroom and the twin bedded room. Downstairs the kitchen leads through a short hall to the main sitting room which is an absolute gem, it is dominated by the massive inglenook fireplace at the end with its lovely woodburning stove, on either side of the room are big comfy sofas and lush period furnishings and a 27" television.

  • The owners (Martin & Beverley) are avid antique hunters and they have used all their skill in imaginatively decorating this cottage with wonderful and eclectic period pieces. The restoration and authentic furnishing of this stunning 5 Star cottage is wonderfully atmospheric and the attention to detail and presentation that Martin and Beverley give it, thoroughly warrant its 5 Star rating by us.

  • This is an exceptional place of great taste and character which is in a wonderful area of unspoilt beauty. Backing on to its own private Nature Reserve, this romantic holiday cottage is perfect for people who want to explore the countryside and the much adored, unspoilt Suffolk coast.

Accommodation

  • Sleeping five guests in three bedrooms; one amazing single, one twin and one magnificent antique Four Poster bed like you have never seen before! The master bedroom has a fabulous Oak four poster bed, the period oak furniture is complimented by some stunning textiles which make this a wonderfully romantic bedroom.

  • From the master bedroom you enter a wide inter-connecting corridor which gives access to the bathroom and the twin bedded room, this has two full sized single brass beds and is furnished with antique pine and has a high vaulted ceiling.

  • In the corridor is a very special and wonderful Breton Bed (3'x 6'3"). These beds are like cupboards that are built into the wall and this one has the most amazing, ancient carved sliding doors and within is a full sized single bed -  you can take your book and a glass of wine, close the doors and be in a world of your own! (Mark is over 6'3" and after trying this bed is now desperate to get one for himself.)

  • The bathroom has a double ended Victorian style roll top bath on ball and claw feet with shower mixer taps, wash hand basin and wc. So although the bedrooms are interconnected everyone can get to the bathroom without disturbing each other, but you do need to go through the Master bedroom to get downstairs.

The Location

  • Laundrys Cottage is in a Regency Row attached to 2 small brick barns and a small rambling Regency house. This cluster of buildings is where the owners live and where they have created the 3 beautiful cottages: Cissy's Cottage, Queenies Cottage and Laundry Cottage which was listed in The Sunday Times 'Coolest 100 Holiday Cottages'.

  • Situated on the main road between the A12 & the pretty Suffolk coastal town of Aldeburgh, this romantic holiday cottage is close to Snape and The Snape Maltings where the famous Benjamin Britten Music and Arts Centre is based.

  • It is situated 7 minutes from the unspoilt and pretty coastal town of Aldeburgh and is surrounded on three sides by a stunning private Nature Reserve that you have direct access to straight from the courtyard.

  • Why not bring your pet? This is a pet friendly cottage and there are many walking routes right from your back door that you can take your dog on...I am sure he will enjoy as much as you! The place is just surrounded by farmed countryside and Nature Reserves. The cottage has its own small courtyard area and private garden which is screened by mature mixed hedging and is covered in rambling roses in Summer. The owners have carefully planned out the 3 cottages so as to afford all guests the chance to have some privacy with special parts of the garden nicely cut off.

  • There are wonderful walks straight from Laundry as it has direct access to a beautiful Nature Reserve where you can walk to The Tunstall Forest of UFO fame, Snape Maltings where the wonderful Arts, Crafts and Music centre is, or round the lakes to the sea side at Aldeburgh on the Suffolk Coast. The seaside at Aldeburgh is a 7 minute drive away and there are unique walks from there along the Orford Ness Nature Reserve or beside the salt lakes to Thorpeness.

  • Aldeburgh is a big Arts Centre with many excellent shops and restaurants and a pretty marina / harbour. There are maps provided so you can explore the reserve and link up to the national coastal nature reserves and lakes areas.

We had a super break in Laundry Cottage in early October. The cottage is authentic, quirky, comfortable and well maintained. We liked the informative and warm welcome, the attention to detail on all the usual living and kitchen cupboard essentials. The welcome pack was outstanding and the Victoria sponge delicious! The location of the cottage in Suffolk is ideal too. The information provided by Grove Cottages is accurate and can be relied on. And very important, they operate with absolute integrity. Having made an incorrect booking on a Sunday, Grove Cottages were very efficient in allowing us a reversal on Monday (with refund) so we could process for re-book at a later date. Excellent service. Thank you.

Beautiful out of season bolthole - very relaxing. Cottage is lovely - spot of luxury. The welcome pack was charming - couldn't fault anything about our stay. Martin and Beverley very friendly and welcoming. Loved visiting/walking through Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Orford.

We came for our wedding anniversary and it was perfect. The cottage is so beautiful, from the exquisite decoration and finishing touches to the gorgeous welcome afternoon tea and cake set out for us on our arrival and even a basket of doggy biscuits to welcome our dog. Thank you so much, we had a blissfully relaxing and romantic weekend. We will definately return.
