Description
Checklist:

Holmwood is an absolutely gorgeous 16th Century Romantic Thatched Cottage, with beautiful interiors and high quality furnishing.
It is in a group of 5 cottages and a pub next to the Sudbury to Ipswich Main Road, located in a very pretty part of Suffolk close to Kersey which is Suffolk prettiest hamlet, Boxford which is a gem of a tiny village and Polsted which is where the best walks are to be found.
This cottage is so pretty with its lovely thatched roof and mature cottage garden, there is an old tree offering some summer shade for when you want to use the garden table there. In the courtyard there is a big breakfast table with wisteria tumbling down the soft red brick walls and old wood stables that surround you on 3 sides capturing the sun and giving privacy and protection on windier days.
There is a BBQ patio at the back and a pretty garden pond fed from the natural spring. Please note that this garden is enclosed but not dog proof and small children should be supervised when in the garden even though the pond is fenced.
You enter the cottage by the Kitchen: which is all hand made by a master craftsman as are all the wonderful restorations and discrete modern conveniences throughout this historic 16th Century cottage. Cooking is done on a large electric range and the kitchen has the added luxury of a dishwasher.
The dining table easily sits 6 in this cosy farmhouse style kitchen with its
original Suffolk White brick floor and high arched ceiling.
A lovely old door leads out to the BBQ patio and another to the the hall where the downstairs bathroom is located, this has a separate bath and shower fitted and is a very well designed.
Off the hall is the large main room with its lovely inglenook fireplace which for fire safety reasons now has an electric 'flame effect' wood burner. There are 2 big comfy sofas and a big armchair easily arranged around an interesting Kelim covered coffee table which is great for putting your feet up on, the old winding staircase off the main room leads you up to a pretty double bedroom and through this to a twin bedroom separated by a door.
Guests who are less than able should not book this cottage because the staircase is tight and steep and absolutely listed - for those who can manage it, it is just another wonderful feature of this beautiful cottage.
Throughout the cottage the renovation has been very carefully carried out so that proper lathe and plaster walls with all their character and imperfections have been reinstated, beautiful worn brick floors have been carefully repaired, ancient beams exposed and cherished, original doors, windows and frames bought back to life and the whole atmosphere of the original building authentically reinstated.
Sarah the owner has a wonderful Persian Carpet shop in Long Melford
www.persiancarpetstudio.co.uk and of course she has put some choice pieces into this lovely cottage which really enhance its atmosphere.
We provide bikes for guests to use for free and there are lovely walks from across the road to Polsted or behind the cottage down the valley to Boxford.
Holmwood is a rare find as a self catering cottage and is located in a very pretty part of Suffolk.
Well behaved Dogs are always welcome, please refer to this web page All About Bringing Pets for charges and how this cottage may suit your pet.
This is much loved cottage that is ready for you to enjoy - chocolate box outside and even better inside.

The cottage exceeded our expectations in every way! Sara was warm and welcoming and the cottage offered every amenity we can think of. The welcome basket was truely welcoming, as were the flowers and the kitchen. We return taking back memories of a very happy time for our family - UK is a bit closer to Bombay now!
