Dons Barn definitely has the WOW Factor. One of our most popular and romantic cottages, it was once the early 1700's Winnowing Barn of The Grove Farm. Now converted into a cosy cottage it has an impressive view over the Orchard through the massive Oak Barn door windows and you can watch the sun setting from your bed on the galleried first floor.
As you enter the main room to this lovely self catering cottage you see infront of you the gorgeous great Millstone that is built into the breakfast bar as a dining table. The kitchen area to the left is hand made cedar and oak, with a whole slice of tree being used for the work top which shows the waney edge of the tree on both sides of the breakfast bar.
There is a nice belfast sink and gas hob with electric grill and oven.
Beyond the Millstone is the main room with its massive inglenook fireplace and enormous Kelim covered Knoll Sofa, almost a room within a room, where you can hide away from the world and cosy down for a lazy afternoon infront of the roaring fire.
The end of the room is dominated by the wonderful roof to floor hand made oak windows which cut through the bedroom floor above, where we have created a hand made iron fenced balcony which affords lovely views straight from the bed accross the Orchard garden into the setting sun.
With its old 'Suffolk White' brick floor, soft red brick walls, hand plastering gently molding around the corners and limewashed paintwork this cottage has a wonderfully cosy and relaxing atmoshere.
Dons Barn was once an early 1700’s Winnowing Barn and is one of the six cottages that make up the Old Grove Farm which dates back to the 1720s. This is great place to get away from the stresses of city life and enjoy peace and rural beauty.
We now have a very large private car park and a dog exercise area covering over an acre so the cottages can enjoy even more peace and quiet and dog owners don’t have to walk bleary eyed down the country lanes first thing in the morning.
Well behaved Dogs are always welcome, please refer to this web page All About Bringing Pets for charges and how this cottage may suit your pet.
There is a laundry room with a new washing machine and dryer and there are 12 bikes for the free use of the guests, including one with a child seat. The South Suffolk Cycle Route runs past the cottage.
We usually have some honey from my own bees and jams from our own fruit available.

Kitchen: all cottages are complete little homes and facilities include modern central heating, refrigerator, hobs, oven and / or microwave, toaster, crockery & serving dishes, cutlery, many utensils, fire-extinguisher, lots of pots & pans, glasses & mugs, kettle, coffee maker, teapot, kitchen towels, oven gloves, olive oil & vinegar, salt & pepper, sugar, herbs, tea, fresh and instant coffee, washing up liquid, cloths, general cleaning materials, etc.
"Welcome Pack": Contains all the freshest ingredients for a 'Proper English breakfast': eggs, bacon, butter, some tomatoes, fruit, a lemon, a litre of milk and a loaf of fresh local bread.
Bathroom: soap, fluffy cotton towels, bath mats, shaver point, toilet brush, toilet roll.
Bedroom: cotton bed linen, wardrobe with coat hangers / chest of drawers, iron, ironing board, hairdryer.

I have 2 lovely big Canoes at The Old Grove Farm which I may be able to lend to guests if I am around, this would be for a day out
on the River Stour and transportation etc costs £45.
Baby cot and high chair provided in cottages accepting babies (please bring babies bedding).

Beautiful cosy cottage, with the most romantic feel. Waking up to the view from the superb floor to ceiling windows was a welcome change to the view from our London flat. The cottage is beautifully presented with great attention to detail. We've taken away inspiration for the cottage we'll hopefully buy and restore one day. A wonderful weekend, we'd definitely look at renting another cottage as Dons Barn was very special and I imagine they are all unique and fantastic. I'd recommend anyone to come and stay and discover the delights of the cottage and surrounding area. Obviously we were lucky with the weather but it wouldn't have mattered if it was bad! The cottage is beautiful, and the guide/map was really helpful. We were sad to leave and will be back!

An amazing place to come and relax; the cottage was immaculate with period features, the wildlife abundant, and although you are in the middle of nowhere there are at least 10 quaint villages to explore within 10 miles. You wouldnt know it but Waitrose was 10 minutes away as well!

We had a wonderful time. Dons Barn is perfect and beautifully designed. We loved the large windows and easy access to the outside. The countryside is beautiful and there is so much to see and do that a week was not enough!

We stayed at Dons Barn on our honeymoon and it was the perfect place for a honeymoon. The cottage is very cosy and quaint with ducks to feed in the back garden. There are some fantastic country pubs serving lovely food. The cottage had everything we needed and the people very friendly and helpful.

I just wanted to say that we had a fabulous time over the weekend. The directions were great, the welcome was outstanding and we felt part of the Grove Cottages family straight away! The Barn was delightful, and very well equipped. We had a most relaxing, enjoyable time and will definitely be coming back. We walked down to the pub in Edwardstone Friday evening and came back by stunningly bright moonlight. We also did Marks walk to Little Waldingfield on Saturday... what beautiful weather too! We couldnt have asked for better.

Had a fabulous time, we're refreshed and the dogs are exhausted. Excellent welcome and information packs. Pub and walking map was particularly useful. It would be lovely to come back if only to use the wood burning stove as the weather was beautiful.
