Cobblers Cottage is the most romantic Holiday cottage we have for a couple, just look at the wonderful Inglenook Log Fire, this 14th Century Medieval Hall House is truly a unique place to enjoy.

Lovingly and meticulously restored using traditional materials and original techniques this beautiful Cottage transports you back to medieval England without depriving you of modern comfort.

This is an exceptional Self Catering experience in the pretty riverside Medieval Village of Nayland Suffolk.

Cobblers Cottage was built in 1420 but it was not until April 2003 when Sara and Kevin started the ambitious project of restoring a derelict village cottage that a rare and historically important Artisan’s 'Hall House' was uncovered. A historical survey commissioned by an eminent architectural historian is on view in the cottage and the project was open to public display and followed in magazine publications.

Nayland is an idyllic Suffolk village with a great riverside pub which grows 90% of everything is serves from its adjacent small-holding, there are some wonderful old fashioned village shops and some beautiful countryside for walking and exploring The River Stour and The Pilgrims Way.

Situated on Stoke Road, Cobblers Cottage has off road parking for one car.

You enter to be welcomed by a homely cottage kitchen with traditional flagstone floor and dining area for four. Fully equipped, the kitchen includes a large gas and electric range cooker, microwave and dishwasher.

Leading off from the kitchen is a large sunny lobby with a massive mullion window overlooking an enclosed terraced garden. A stable door opens onto a patio area with garden furniture and barbecue. At the bottom of the garden is a leafy arch which leads into a cottage vegetable patch and herb garden, this is for the use of guests.

There is also a cloakroom/utility room with washer/dryer and Belfast sink.

The sitting room is dominated by a wealth of exposed beams and the fantastic original ‘working’ inglenook fireplace. There is a huge Knoll sofa, which allows you to curl up and relax in front of the fire. The room is carefully furnished with antiques, Persian textiles and carpets on a Suffolk brick floor. Discreetly concealed is a LCD TV, DVD and CD stereo.

Off from the sitting room is a small library tucked under the stairs.

You ascend the narrow winding staircase into a medieval vaulted ceiling bedchamber with a massive arched tie beam and fine octagonal crown post. Uniquely this impressive crown post has been re-used from an earlier building of the mid 14th century. Part the drapes at the top of the stairs and you enter a romantic bedroom of medieval splendour. Furnished with a fine antique bed and French armoire the room is decorated with lime wash of the original colour and sumptuous fabrics.

Through oak panelling you enter a traditional bathroom containing rolled top slipper bath with shower attachment, loo, basin and heated towel rail all under a vaulted-tented ceiling.

Cobblers Cottage is truly a unique place to spend time and relax.

Extremely cosy & beautifully furnished cottage. Everything is as the website led us to believe and more. A really beautiful find.

Friday, 15th of August, 2008, Heidi & Neville:
Cobblers was perfect down to the last detail - the cottage itself is awesome, the lengths that Sara & Kevin have gone to, to ensure an idyllic break in a fantastic location are quite over & above what we expect from Cottage holidays. They certainly have gone 'the extra mile' Eloise came to welcome us and should be given a gold star - what a lovely young lady she is.

Thursday, 7th of August, 2008, Mary & Ian:
We have enjoyed ourselves very much; great walking for the dog, so much so she hid under the table when we put out shoes on!
