Description

Bromans Barn is a romantic self catering cottage with an elegant mix of ecological build and sympathetic historical renovation.

The farmhouse dates back to 1320 and was once one of the major farmhouses in the area. This beautiful holiday cottage is right beside Mersea Islands wonderful Cudmore Nature reserve. Bromans will suit guests who enjoy a good walk, the seaside, and some interesting seafood restaurants.

Well behaved Dogs are always welcome, please refer to this webpage  All About Bringing Pets  for charges, rules and how this cottage may suit your pet.

Cottage Walk Through

  • Bromans Barn itself is very eco friendly, with sheep's wool insulation and ground heat source pump supplying hot water and under floor heating - it also has its own organic vegetable and herb beds for guests to freely use.

  • As with all the cottages, everything is supplied to provide you with a stress free and enjoyable stay, including bed linen, towels, basic supplies, a lovely breakfast welcome basket, maps for you to explore the area and you can even bring your own dinghy, windsurf or kayak!

  • This is a very creative conversion of an old Barn; impressively spacious but also very cosy and relaxing. The sun streams in through the many windows and in the evenings there is a lovely cosy log wood burner to enjoy.

  • As Bromans Barn is all on the ground floor and has a very large 'wet room' bathroom, it is it also ideal for guests who have limited mobility, please call us to discuss this further.

  • What you see of the main room does change a little bit in different photos, as lovely items like the handbuilt 'Settle' and dining table have been added since the initial photoshoot. There is also a dishwasher and fridge in the kitchen. A cot and high chair are also available.

  • Unfortunately, bicycles are no longer available at this cottage.

The Location

  • This is an excellent place to enjoy the rich wildlife of Mersea Island from the comfort of a romantic barn conversion on a lovely old farm; it is just a short stroll through the adjacent Nature Reserve to the beach.

  • As this is a pet friendly cottage,  you can really exhaust a dog and enjoy the beauty of the salt marshes, where seals bask and you become very aware of the ever changing light relationship between sky, marsh and sea.

  • Bromans has a beautiful appeal - not only is it next to the country park but also just minutes walk from the sea and the Pyefleet Estuary.

  • At Bromans the wildife is in abundance - with fields just outside the barn you may catch sight of the hares and badgers and if you're lucky, red squirrels, along with some wonderful birdlife.

  • For those with dogs, or those who wish to walk and enjoy the countryside, or even those who just want the peace and quiet that the countryside offers; Bromans Barn offers the lot.

  • Mersea Island is well known for its oyster beds and wonderful harbourside restaurants like 'The Company Shed'. If you decide to check this one out remember to get there at least an hour before luchtime and bring your own bread, butter and bottle of wine: You'll see why and you'll definitley not be dissapointed!

  • As from April 22nd The Brightlingsea Ferry starts and a trip there from Mersea Island is rather fun, with lovely fish and chips there too. East Mersea is a recognised stopping point for many of the migratory birds coming to the UK over the different seasons. Read more about Mersea Island...

We squeezed the very last sunshine out of the year and enjoyed a round the island walk - would recommend, or if not, the entire 13ish miles from here out to the Strood and back - very dog friendly. We recommend a drive to Dedham, very quaint and pretty with with a great pub (Sun Inn), fab food and dogs allowed in front bar.

Thoroughly wonderful, peaceful and relaxing holiday. Barn's beautiful and our dogs loved the fields we were allowed to use. Ruth and Martin made us so very welcome, thank you. P.S the weather was just fabulous. It was just like being in the med!

Bromans Barn lived up to all our expectations. An ideal place to relax and unwind. The barn is spacious and very cosy. Perfect for long walks with Charlie our labrador. We had whole stretches of beach to ourselves in the early evening, and plenty of doggy friends to play with at other times. A very romantic place with or wothout a dog.

We found a gem when we picked Bromans Barn - cosy yet spacious - exceeded our expectations - beautiful location on the farm with horses and heron for neighbours. WE enjoyed our daily walk through the country park to the beach, lunch at the Company Shed, day in Colchester town and evenings with the log burner. Perfect

Ruth & Martin have worked very hard to develop their barn into a welcoming and comfortable holiday home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The barn was a peaceful, tucked-away retreat for us and the dog. Loved the walks straight from the door through the country park and coastal path. We appreciated the pretty sitting area, complete with sun loungers - perfect for a good book and glass of wine!
