Bromans Barn is self catering cottage with an elegant mix of ecological build and sympathetic historical renovation, this romantic cottage is right beside Mersea Islands wonderful Cudmore Nature reserve.
This is an excellent place to enjoy the rich wildlife of Mersea Island from the comfort of a beautiful Barn conversion on a lovely old farm; it is just a short stroll through the adjacent Nature Reserve to the beach - here you can really exhaust a dog and enjoy the beauty of the salt marshes where seals bask and you become very aware of the ever changing light relationship between sky, marsh and sea.
Bromans Barn itself is very eco friendly with sheep's wool insulation and ground heat source pump supplying hot water and under floor heating - it also has its own organic vegetable and herb beds for guests to freely use.
As from April 22nd The Brightlingsea Ferry starts and a trip there from Mersea Island is rather fun, with lovely fish and chips there too. Information about this is provided in the Cottage.
As with all the cottages everything is supplied to provide you with a stress free and enjoyable stay, including bedding, linen, towels, basic supplies, a lovely breakfast welcome basket, maps and bikes for you to explore the area, you can even bring your own dinghy, windsurf or kayak !
This is a very creative conversion of an old Barn, and although impressively spacious is also very cosy and relaxing, the sun streams in through the many windows and in the evenings there is a lovely cosy log wood burner to enjoy.
As Bromans Barn is all on the ground floor and has a very large 'wet room' bathroom it is it also ideal for guests who have limited mobility problems, please call us to discuss this further.
What you see of the main room does change a little bit in different photos as more lovely items like the handbuilt 'Settle' and dining table have been added since the initial photoshoot.
There is also a dishwasher and fridge in the kitchen. A cot and high chair is available and there are bikes to explore the lovely countryside which starts just 50 yards away.
Mersea Island is well known for its oyster beds and wonderful harbourside restaurants like 'The Company Shed', if you decide to check this one out remember to get there at leaste an hour before luchtime and bring your own bread, butter and bottle of wine: you'll see why and you will definitley not be dissapointed
Bromans will suit guests who enjoy a good walk and some interesting seafood restaurants
Well behaved Dogs are always welcome, please refer to this web page All About Bringing Pets for charges and how this cottage may suit your pet.

Beautiful cottage- perfect location within walking distance to a nature reserve that leads down to a lovely beach. Perfect for couples and dogs.
There were fresh flowers awaiting our arrival, fresh milk. bread, butter, eggs, fruit and bacon....absolutely perfect. Ru was lovely and stopped by to welcome us and give us some tips on places to visit and walks to take. There are some lovely places to visit. The Coast Inn ( restaurant ) in West Mersea was fab. We had a lovely chilled out week and will definitely recommend to friends and family
Friday, 5th of April, 2013, Roz & John:
Jo and Ru have been perfect hosts (especially as the have only just moved it themselves!) and made our break a real “home from home” with a high level of care.
As soon as we walked into The Barn – the welcoming sound of Classical music, 2 vases of daffodils and a little basket of Easter eggs.
These little touches are so important and much appreciated.
This is the perfect get away from it all, but NOT cut off!
Shops within driving distance, superb walks from the farm.
